Shonda Rhimes is gearing up for the premiere of her newest drama, The Catch. With the show set to join ABC’s Thursday night lineup, many fans can’t wait for Rhimes’ newest offering. With the show’s premiere now upon us, here’s a rundown of what fans can expect to unfold in the new series.
For starters, She Knows is reporting that The Catch is a crime drama that contains similar elements as Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder and Scandal. The show centers on a private investigator named Alice Vaughan who works out of L.A. The story picks up after Alice falls victim to her fiancé’s con and then attempts to unravel his secrets.
Mireille Enos is set to play the part of Alice and is known for her work on The Killing. Peter Krause, from Parenthood, will portray Alice’s fiancé, while Sonya Walger, Rose Rollins, Jay Hayden, Elvy Yost, Alimi Ballard, and Jacky Ido round out the remaining cast.
Speaking of the cast, the series faced some considerable changes to its star-studded lineup after the pilot. In fact, the show original starred Bethany Joy Lenz and Damon Dayoub in the lead roles.
Fortunately, Rhimes was able to find a great replacement for Lenz in The Catch. With Enos playing the lead part, the actress recently sat down with The Daily Beast and discussed her new role. In particular, Enos revealed how she was looking to work on a something a little lighter in tone than The Killing and admitted that working with Rhimes was the last thing she suspected.
“In the back of my mind I was hoping to do something lighter,” Enos shared. “I didn’t know what package it was going to come in. I did not expect it to be the lead in the next Shondaland show. I was like, how does Shonda even know about me, and how does she imagine that I would even look good in a pencil skirt?”
Apart from her change in wardrobe with the new series, Enos also talked about her character’s state of mind at the beginning of the story. Despite seeing her relationship with the man she loves fall apart, Enos revealed that her character has a strong desire to discover the truth about his con.
“If someone found themselves on the doorstep of their wedding and that falls apart, and the man was a liar, and everything you knew had blown up, I think most girlfriends would advise you to walk away as quickly as possible,” she stated. “Alice is incapable of doing that. She has to have answers about who he is and how much of it was true or not true. Almost to a fault.”
As far as Krause is concerned, the actor is currently coming off his role in the hit series Parenthood. Although he is looking forward to moving on to his new show, Krause recently told Us Weekly Magazine that he still cherishes the time he spent on Parenthood and the bonds he developed with his co-stars on the show.
“It was just a fun set,” he stated. “Very collaborative, we all really loved each other. I’m in contact with all of the people on the show.”
Meanwhile, Rhimes’ newest series adds yet another lead female role to her growing list of hit shows. In fact, E! Online is reporting that Enos is set to join the likes of Ellen Pompeo (Grey’s Anatomy), Kerry Washington (Scandal), and Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) as female leads on ABC’s Thursday night lineup. The only question remaining is whether or not Enos will live up to the expectations.
