Kentucky Teacher Melissa Arnett Accused of Sex with Student

Melissa Arnett, a former special education teacher at Bourbon County High School, has been accused of having sex with one of her male students.

Arnett, 33, faces one charge of sex abuse of a minor for allegedly having sex at least 5 times with one of her students over a 2 month period. Arnett was booked into custody in Lexington, Kentucky and released July 14 on a $5,000 bond.

The student’s mother became suspicious of her son’t whereabouts and behaviour and went to authorities back in early June. When Melissa Arnett was confronted about the allegations, she broke down and confessed that she had indeed been involved in a sexual relationship with the male student. She then immediately resigned her teaching position and turned herself in to police.

Police are saying that Arnett sometimes drove the student across county lines where laws are more lenient and they would have sex. But the charge stems from her confession that she did have sex at least once while in Bourbon County.
