45 year old John Fautenberry, originally from Oregon was pronounced dead at 10:37 a.m. Tuesday morning. Fautenberry confessed to murdering 5 people in 1990-1991. He killed Joseph Daron Jr., who picked him up while he was hitchhiking on Feb. 17, 1991 and four other people in the States of Alaska, Oregon and New Jersey on a five month long killing spree.

In the time leading up to his execution, John Fautenberry’s lawyers ran through the normal course of appeals in trying to get his sentence reduced, but all were unsuccessful. His Lawyer even tried to pull the mental illness card and have extensive neurological tests performed on his client, citing brain damage from a childhood accident and from an injury that occurred while Fautenberry served in the U.S. Navy.

John Fautenberry’s request for a last meal consisted of a standard breakfast with eggs and toast, two Three Musketeers candy bars and two packages of Reese’s peanut butter cups.
