As the United States 2016 presidential election rages on, Donald Trump gets compared to Adolf Hitler more and more often. And while many of Trump's supporters may strongly oppose Democratic front-runner Bernie Sanders, he never gets compared to Hitler in return. Until now.
According to the Huffington Post, a once-popular televangelist named Jim Bakker went on a strange rant against Bernie Sanders, claiming that his support among young people can be explained by a conspiratorial plot organized by public schools to teach anti-American values to students. He then went on to say that Bernie Sanders' popularity is evidence that America is growing one step closer to Nazi Germany.
Jim Bakker was a successful televangelist minister decades ago, but his career was ruined after a sex scandal and charges of fraud sent him to prison. Now, Bakker runs a show selling food to survivalists and uses the platform to speak his mind about the current state of America. While discussing the supposed anti-American mindset of modern young people, Jim Bakker's co-host Sasha Volz explained that students are taught to be ashamed of their country as a result of public schools trying to "infiltrate" their minds.
This prompted Jim Bakker to bring up Bernie Sanders, who he thinks is either the cause or the result of this plan to brainwash children to hate America. He then went a step further and compared Bernie Sanders to Adolf Hitler.
"One of the most popular politicians right now is a socialist. And who is his biggest following? The young people of America, from the colleges. Maybe you understand a little bit what it felt like to live when Hitler was reigning and the church had to sit by and keep watching it and watching until millions, tens of millions — they had to build factories to kill people. All it takes is a couple bombs and all of America will be dead within a year, less than a year, just months."Jim Bakker didn't exactly explain what it is about Bernie Sanders that would liken him to Hitler, other than the fact that college-age young people tend to support him. But Bakker did add that he doesn't like the direction America is headed, thanks to the kind of people who support Bernie Sanders.
"I can't tolerate this much longer," Jim Bakker said. "I can't tolerate it."

Bakker's fear of the future might explain his current career as a doomsday prepper who sells goods to other people anticipating the end times. While the televangelist once had a strong Christian following, his ministry ended in disgrace after he was convicted in 1988 on 15 counts of wire fraud, eight counts of mail fraud, and one count of conspiracy. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison but only ended up serving about five. Jim Bakker was also accused of raping a woman named Jessica Hahn but was never convicted. However, the scandal caused Bakker to resign, according to the New York Times.
Fellow Christian minister Jerry Falwell succeeded Jim Bakker at the PTL Club, later calling the disgraced televangelist, "the greatest scab and cancer on the face of Christianity in 2,000 years of church history."
Do you agree with Jim Bakker comparing Bernie Sanders to Hitler? Does even it make sense to attribute the popularity of Bernie Sanders among the youth as a similarity to Nazi Germany?
Despite the fact that Donald Trump is most often compared to Hitler, he and Bernie Sanders do actually agree on quite a few issues. Read more about them here.
