Talulah Riley, the wife of Tesla frontman Elon Musk, has filed for divorce for the second time, and it is going to cost the billionaire in a big way. If this divorce goes through, it will be the second divorce, following the second marriage, all since 2010. The first marriage lasted two years, and this one so far has lasted for three years for Musk and Riley.
Expensive divorces are moving through the courts right now in Los Angeles, the other notable divorce recently filed according to The Inquisitr is between Steve Levitan, the creator of Modern Family, and his wife Krista. According to the court, Steve Levitan makes $2.4 million per month, which he will likely have to split with his soon-to-be former wife.
Fortune is reporting that Talulah Riley filed for divorce Monday for the second time from Elon Musk in the superior court in Los Angeles.
“The divorce is amicable and the pair agreed that Riley would file the petition to end their latest marriage after roughly 2 ½ years.”
Musk and Riley have been living separately for six months and say that they plan to remain friends. Musk had filed to divorce Riley on New Year’s Eve 2014, but rescinded the divorce petition. Musk and Riley have both seemed committed to being together, but incapable of making it work together as a couple. During Musk and Riley’s last divorce plans, Musk had promised to give Riley $16 million in cash and other properties per their prenup agreement.
The couple has no children, but Musk has five sons from a previous marriage.
The Daily Mail says that this current divorce filing between Musk and Riley comes just 14 months after the last filing. Riley, who is mostly known in America as the twice-wife of Elon Musk, is a British actress. Riley 30, and Musk, 44, have issued joint statements about their current split. Elon Musk founded Paypal, and helped start Tesla, the electric car company, and now Spacex the private space exploration company.
Elon Musk has not been satisfied with just running one company and has an eye for the future with companies that embrace big ideas. He is also a champion of building a futuristic hyperloop in California that would transport people and cargo at the speed of sound. Musk is a bit of an enigma among the Hollywood community.
Musk reportedly wowed Riley after they met in London just after his divorce from his first wife. Musk asked Riley to marry him several weeks after their first meeting, and though he didn’t have a ring on him, he asked her to shake on the deal.
Soon after that day, Musk gave Riley three rings for her leap of faith, a giant one, an everyday ring, and a third with a diamond surrounded by 10 sapphires. Riley tried to see Musk through a rough time, professionally and financially, that also put him through personal stress, and the marriage dissolved for the first time.
After the couple divorced the first time, Musk and Riley found that they were both unhappy apart and tried again. Riley said she decided to give it another try because there was nobody else around she liked like Musk.
“I looked around, and there was no one else nice to be with. Number two is that Elon doesn’t have to listen to anyone in life. No one. He doesn’t have to listen to anything that doesn’t fit into his worldview. But he proved he would take s**t from me.”
It seems totally possible that Musk and Riley could go for round three, as a prenup takes out the financial motivation of two people who seem to have trouble staying apart.
Do you think Musk and Riley will actually remain divorced this time?
