Ask For A ‘The Vampire Diaries’ And ‘The Originals’ Crossover With Klaroline And This Is What You Get

Julie Plec has always said that the only time The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will crossover is when the storytelling allows it. It needs to be part of the bigger picture, and that happened in Season 7 and Season 3 of their respective shows. Now, it looks like fans will get another crossover, but they are not happy. Out of all the characters on The Vampire Diaries, it will include Matt.

According to Carter Matt, an episode during Season 3 of The Originals will see Elijah and Finn Mikaelson pay Matt Donovan a visit. This could be an interesting meeting, but fans would have likely preferred had it been Rebekah Mikaelson paying her former fling a visit. However, the idea of using Matt out of all the other characters on the show has gotten the vampire show fans riled up.

One of the interesting points is that a crossover right now will mean time changes. The Vampire Diaries is now three years in the future, while The Originals is still in the present day. For it to happen on the spinoff show, it means that 2016’s Matt will make an appearance, just as he has decided to take the town back for himself and tell all vampires—including Stefan—to get out.

Michael Narducci, the executive producer for The Originals, says that the idea of Finn and Matt coming up against each other again is the interesting part. Fans will remember that Matt killed Finn in Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries, showing for the first time that the whole sire line will die when an Original has been killed.

Finn appeared at the end of the last episode of The Originals, leaving a cliffhanger for fans as the show went into a mini break. The show will return on April 1. He will likely have some grudges to hold against Matt, just as Kol had a grudge against Jeremy for his own death.

While it means a crossover between The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, fans are not best pleased. Many do not like Matt, as one of the only purely humans left on the show he seems to have been giving weaker parts to play. This is especially the case during Season 7, where he has become the protector of Mystic Falls, despite not really being able to do much against the vampires.

Plenty of fans took to Twitter after the announcement to question the decision. They have used a series of gifs, including ones with Judge Judy, Kim Kardashian and The Vampire Diaries‘ own Paul Wesley. Zap2It has reported that they could be criticizing the idea for no reason. There is the potential for a major showdown, considering this does include Finn.

The downside is that fans will know a showdown between Finn and Matt cannot end with Matt’s death. The character has appeared in the flashforward clips throughout The Vampire Diaries Season 7. He has to be there for the next part of the season, and the only way he can be killed is if The Originals jumps three years ahead instead. This could, however, set up the storyline as to why Matt completely turned against Stefan and decided to work with Rayna to deliver him and why he grew so much hatred for Caroline.

The second crossover of the year will happen on April 8, so the week after the two shows return to air. It will only take place during The Originals, unlike the last crossover that happened across both The Vampire Diaries and its spinoff show. New episodes return from April 1 with The Vampire Diaries at 8/7c and The Originals the hour after.
