Powerball is the most popular jackpot lottery game in the United States. It is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The game is governed by the Multi State Lottery Association. Because the Powerball is played in different jurisdictions, not every area that offers the game follows the same rules. For example, the Power Play multiplier may not be available in all states and the information that is made public when Powerball winners collect their prizes may vary from one state to the next. Also, the amount of time that winners have to claim the Powerball prize may vary from one jurisdiction to the next. Check with your local state lottery board in order to determine the local rules and regulations that govern your area. You can find an interactive map with links to each state lottery that plays Powerball at the official website.
Powerball tickets cost $2 each while Mega Millions tickets cost $1. While some find advantages to playing Mega Millions, many readily agree that Powerball has the larger jackpot prizes. In fact, all Powerball jackpots reset to $40 million after a grand prize win whereas Mega Millions jackpots reset to $15 million. Powerball jackpots have also grown to extraordinary heights with the January 13, the Powerball jackpot grew to a record-breaking $1.58 billion. It was the largest lottery jackpot ever recorded. Since that game, Powerball has increased in popularity and more people have tried their luck at becoming instant millionaires.
Learning to play Powerball is easy, and many find the game fun. Powerball drawings are held twice a week on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 11:00 p.m. ET. All drawings take place live from the Florida Lottery Studios located in Tallahassee, Florida. Powerball consists of choosing five white balls between the numbers 1 and 69 and one, red Power Ball between the numbers 1 and 26. You can pick your numbers yourself or let the terminal select numbers randomly for you through a Quick Pick. There is nothing that states one method is better than the other and both have frequently won Powerball jackpots. Some people feel that the best strategy for playing Powerball and other lottery jackpot games like Mega Millions is to buy at least two tickets per draw. One ticket is played with the same numbers and the other ticket is played using the Quick Pick Many people have reported winning prizes by using this method.
Whichever method you prefer for playing Powerball, it’s important to remember that all lottery games are a form of gambling and need to be played in a responsible manner. Never play with money you can’t afford to lose and don’t make the mistake of buying more Powerball tickets when the jackpot reaches hundreds of millions or billions of dollars.
