Nyle DiMarco Sent To Hospital For Injury Suffered In Rehearsal

Nyle DiMarco is the first completely deaf celebrity to compete on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. The interest of fans of the live dance competition was piqued at the news, curious to know how someone who can’t hear the music learns to dance. Nyle and his professional dance partner Peta Murgatroyd have reportedly worked through any challenges presented by his inability to hear. It turns out that it may be the sight of a shirtless DiMarco, who won the last season of America’s Next Top Model, that has caused the first injury of DWTS Season 22 according to Hollywood Life.

It seems that while Nyle and Peta were rehearsing, things got a little warm, and he decided to take off his shirt. This was followed by some giggles from Peta who told DiMarco she was just fine with him having his shirt off. The pair proceeded to work on their Cha Cha until a few minutes later, as she performed a spin with her arms over her head, Murgatroyd knocked Nyle in his left eyebrow with her elbow. (Perhaps a little distracted by her bare-chested partner?) He shrugged it off, as if to tell her not to worry about it before heading to the mirror to check out his injury. He discovered a cut that was bleeding pretty badly. The rehearsal was being filmed and at this point Peta told the camera, “I have never hit anyone that badly in my whole life,” while Nyle got checked out by Dancing With the Stars docs. They decided that his cut was deep enough that he should be seen by the local hospital and off he went.

When a dashing, calm DiMarco emerged from the hospital later, photographers were eagerly waiting for a report on his injury. It turns out that he had to get four stitches in his eyebrow. The doctors were good with that needle and thread. You can barely tell he was hurt. DiMarco joked with the photographers.

“I definitely realized today that dancing is definitely a full contact sport… and I like it.”

Thank goodness. Hey Nyle, maybe you should keep your shirt on from now on. Maybe.

When Peta was recently asked how she would train DiMarco given that he couldn’t hear the music, she responded.

“Honestly, it’s all visual. And it’s more a challenge for me this season, and it’s a great one. I love working with him. He’s such a great student and we’re hitting it off, we’re doing our moves great and it’s going to be an amazing season.”

Well, let’s just try to keep the injuries to a minimum, shall we?

A video of the portion of the Dancing With the Stars rehearsal in which Nyle DiMarco was injured will be shown on tonight’s broadcast. Nyle and Peta will be dancing the Cha Cha to DNCE’s Cake by the Ocean.

DWTS is in its 22nd season. It’s based on a British live dancing competition named Strictly Come Dancing. The show has won 14 Primetime Emmys.

Nyle DiMarco is 26-years-old and is from New York, New York. He was born into a deaf family and is part of a fourth generation of that family who is deaf. Nyle has stated that because he has never been able to hear, it has never felt like an obstacle to him. This is especially true because DiMarco has always been part of a family and community who cannot hear. So it has always just been a way of life for him. That attitude has done Nyle well, showing his modeling skills on America’s Next Top Model and now showing his fancy footwork on DWTS.
