‘Outlander’ Newbie Richard Rankin Calls Season 2 ‘Bloody Brilliant’

Outlander fans really don’t need any motivation to get excited about Season 2’s premiere. From a brand new setting to the introduction of new characters, the second season is expected to meet everyone’s growing expectations. However, Outlander star Richard Rankin recently ramped up the excitement as the actor took to social media to express his thoughts on the coming season.

According to Scotland Now, Rankin is set to play the part of Roger Wakefield in the hit time-traveling series. While he prepares for his new role, Rankin sent out a message on Twitter assuring fans that they will not be disappointed.

“I think Season 2 of #Outlander is going to be bloody brilliant,” he wrote in the post.

Not only is Rankin just as excited as fans about the coming season, he’s also taking his role very seriously. In fact, the actor recently spent a day researching his character’s back story during a venture out to Wardlaw Mausoleum.

The mausoleum is the final resting place of the Lovat Frasers, who played a large role in the Jacobite Rebellion. Clearly, this is the right place for Rankin to get accustomed to Outlander’s back story, especially considering how Lord Lovat is Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) grandfather.

“We were delighted to have @RikRankin at the mausoleum today,” the site’s Twitter page read alongside a photo of Rankin. “He was doing background research for his Outlander role.”

Meanwhile, in addition to Rankin’s comments on social media, Master Herald is reporting that Outlander has released another teaser trailer. The video features a few looks at the new French setting as well as how Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will deal with the challenges in Season 2.

The second season will feature Claire and Jamie heading to Paris, France, to change history and stop the Jacobite Rebellion. Along with their mission to preserve Scottish heritage and culture, the two will face the challenges of dealing with the fallout of last season, all the while Claire is pregnant with their first child.

Apart from Jamie and Claire, the clip also included a glimpse at some the new characters that will be introduced this year. This includes the likes of Fergus (Romann Berux), Mother Hildegarde (Frances de la Tour) and Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon). Unfortunately, no images of Brianna have been released, though it shouldn’t be long before fans are treated to a first look of the character.

Along with the official teaser trailer, another promotional video made its way online. According to International Business Times, this trailer hinted at a massive time jump in the show, which included Claire going forward to her own time. What else was revealed in the video?

Aside from her visit back home, the trailer also shows Claire’s interaction with Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix). Claire tells Murtagh about her ability to time travel and then informs him about her plans to prevent the Jacobite Rebellion.

While fans gear up for the Season 2 premiere, Heughan recently traveled to Australia. The Outlander star posted a picture of himself on Instagram posing outside of the Sydney Opera House, with the caption, “You little beauty! Hello OZ!!!!”

Apparently, Heughan is in Australia in order to help promote the premiere of Outlander’s second season. Naturally, fans were quick to join in on the conversation with Heughan, advising him on the best places to go in the country before he heads back home.

With so much going on in recent weeks, there is little doubt that fans are thrilled about the premiere of Season 2, which is set to hit televisions on April 9 on Starz.
