Entertainment Weekly relays the words of the seasoned actress about her first meeting with Lawrence.

“She was entirely different then. It was years ago and I don’t think she understood how good she really is.”

The Terms of Endearment star shared that, at the time, she saw much of herself in the witty and outgoing young star. She encouraged Lawrence to remember who she is and never forget where she’s from.

“Be yourself. Never basically leave Kentucky. Know who you are above all others.”

Additionally, MacLaine advised Jen to never lose her sense of humor and to remember that she is talented and respected. Shirley added that Lawrence’s success in the industry would be calculated by her own satisfaction in what she achieves, not by the amount of money she makes.

“You can’t know until you try it and succeed. I don’t mean money, I mean fulfillment in the creative character.”

The publication reminds readers how Lawrence has blossomed since hearing these words from MacLaine.

“Several years and four Oscar nominations later, the 25-year-old is now well known for her self-deprecating personality and sharp wit.”

Shirley MacLaine’s latest book, Above the Line, is now available. The well-known actress shares other candid advice and details about her time as a Hollywood actress. Most recently, reports are focusing on MacLaine’s words about an open marriage. The publication shares the basis of Shirley’s belief that an open marriage is the way to go.

“The legendary star, who has been famously candid about her love life – which has included a handful of affairs – says that the only way to ensure marital success is to take an open approach to monogamy.”

During an interview, the actress shared about her relationships of the past that were the pathway to her loving life and having romance without being too tied down.

“I guess you would say ‘practiced an open marriage’ in 1954, which was another lifetime. No one understood it, we did. He lived in Japan basically, I lived in America working, and this and that,. We’d meet up, always great friends, traveled sometimes together.”

The couple split in 1982, yet MacLaine welcomed a daughter with the man and still refers to him as “the love of my life.”

“I think that’s the basis for a long-lasting marriage, if you really want to do such a thing. I would say better to stay friends and we don’t have enough time to talk about the sexuality of all. I was very open about all of that and so was he.”

MacLaine’s current love life is a little less exciting these days and mainly revolves around caring for her pet dogs.

As for Lawrence, the beauty is certainly staying true to herself while ensuring the world can see how talented she is, as MacLaine did. Jen is coming off a nomination for the critically acclaimed movie Joy and will soon be taking over the big screen along with the X-Men crew as Mystique in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The trailer for the sure-to-be hit film shows Mystique holding her own, as Daily Mail shares, and the final scene of the trailer is likely enough to get fans to the theaters.

“The dramatic trailer ends with Apocalypse and Mystique in a showdown, as the destructive ‘god’ grabs her by the neck and all appears lost.”
