Store Clerk Grabs Baby From Mother Having Seizure — Viral CCTV Video Shows Quick Thinking And Timely Intervention Saving Two Lives

A store clerk saved the life of a baby as well as the mother by her quick thinking and even faster reflexes. With a simple gesture, the clerk managed to save two lives.

A CCTV video that has gone viral shows how a convenience store clerk in suburban Denver saved the young mother holding her baby. The convenience store clerk is being hailed a hero for quickly scooping up the toddler from the mother’s hand as the latter appears to collapse from a seizure. Having secured the baby, the clerk then proceeds to help the mother who appears to have fallen to the floor, near the cash register.

The incident happened at a convenience store located in Arvada, Colorado, on Sunday. The surveillance camera mounted atop the cash register inside the Alta convenience store captured the entire scene. It shows the store clerk jumping into action to grab the youngster before her mother collapsed to the ground, reported Yahoo. The quick-thinking woman who saved the baby and the mother has been identified as Rebecca Montano.

Speaking about the incident, Montano said she noticed something wasn’t quite right with the young mother, who was straddling a toddler, while attempting to pay for her purchase,

“I was talking to the baby and she — the girl — had a glazed look on her face. I wasn’t sure, I felt uneasy about it. I was asking her ‘is everything ok,’ I grabbed the baby’s arm and she started to sway, she wouldn’t answer me. She was just lost in space, so I thought I better take the baby, something doesn’t feel right. And then right there she started to fall and I wasn’t sure still exactly what was going on, so I yelled at [a nearby] customer that was in the store [for help]. She fell, I came back, grabbed the phone called 911.”

The store clerk said she continued talking to the baby while trying to figure out what’s wrong with the mother, who appeared to be dazed,

“I wanted to make the baby smile because I love babies, I am a mom and grandma. I look at the mom and she has a blank stare and something in me said something wasn’t right. She started to sway so I grabbed the baby’s arms.”

Montano said she wasn’t a hero, she just did what her instinct told her to do. She said she actually felt bad she couldn’t catch the young woman from falling to the ground, reported 9 News. Montano added that having raised kids of her own as well as her grandkids, her primary focus was to secure the baby,

“I think being a mother, being a grandmother, my first instinct was the baby. I just wanted to save the baby from getting hurt, if she would’ve fallen with the baby in her arms, who knows where that baby would’ve landed?”

The CCTV footage shows another customer rushing to help the fallen mother while the store clerk is out making the emergency call to the paramedics. Montano confirmed that the dispatcher instructed her how to attend to the woman before paramedics could arrive. She confirmed that the instructions helped her to keep the poor woman breathing during the seizure.

After a short while the emergency vehicle arrived and whisked the mother and child away. But two days later the women were reunited, reported Inside Edition. The mother thanked Montano for her timely intervention and added that she has been suffering from seizures for a long time,

“She came back yesterday afternoon… to tell me thank you for saving her baby. She said that she’s suffered seizures since she was little.”

The store clerk says she believes in “good karma” and hopes that if something like that ever happened to her, somebody would help her too, reported WGNTV.
