Nina Dobrev Reprising Former Doppelganger Role On ‘The Originals’?

Could Nina Dobrev be in talks to reprise a former doppelganger role on The Originals? Julie Plec is certainly open to it and would also be open to her returning to The Vampire Diaries as Elena.

Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries at the end of Season 6 to pursue other acting opportunities. She had said that her role as Elena had come to an end after six years of storytelling. However, her opportunities have arguably not been as big as she may have hoped. Now she may be looking to return to one of the shows, possibly reprising her role as a different doppelganger.

All the doppelgangers are dead, are they not? It would seem so, but this is certainly something The Originals can overcome. The doppelganger in question would be Klaus and Elijah’s love interest Tatia Petrova, according to Yibada. This was a character mentioned during Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries and then played by Dobrev in Season 2 of The Originals. Her blood was used by Esther for the spell to make the Mikaelson siblings vampires.

It would certainly not be the first time the spinoff show has brought a character back from the dead. Kol has just recently returned again, along with Finn. Esther and Mikael were brought back for Season 2 of the show. With Freya Mikaelson and Dahlia introduced last year and now Lucian, Aurora, and Tristan, it makes sense to introduce another character from around that time period. Who better than the love interest that almost got in between Klaus and Elijah?

Another option is that Dobrev returns but plays Elena. There are a few issues with this possibility, though. The first is that it would currently mean Bonnie’s death in The Vampire Diaries, and that is reportedly not going to happen since Kat Graham is excited for Season 8 of the show. The writers could get around it somehow, but that could seem like a cop-out to some fans.

There would be some who would question why Elena would leave Mystic Falls once she does wake up. She has never shown an interest in leaving her hometown, and everything that has currently happened on the show would just be a story to her. The only possibility is that she wakes up to find Mystic Falls completely gone, or Damon suggests that they move away somewhere after everything that has happened to him.

If Elena did wake up and move to New Orleans, Damon would have to follow. There are already rumors that Ian Somerhalder will not be involved in The Vampire Diaries Season 8, and could that be because he is considering a move to The Originals? While there would be a storyline crossover possibility, there would be nothing to draw Damon to New Orleans except for the need for Klaus’ blood to save him from the werewolf toxin currently in his system.

According to Just Jared, the idea of Dobrev reprising any role on The Originals is a long shot. She has been named as Covert Fashion app’s next celebrity host, and that will keep her busy until at least mid-April. This could set her up for a career change. Dobrev is said to be excited about this change of direction, as she can connect with “fans on a completely new level.”

There are many different rumors circulating around The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. Nobody really knows for certain what will happen. Plec would be happy to bring Elena back but has not necessarily shared her support for Tatia coming back onto the show. For now, it could be safe to assume that Dobrev is not joining the cast of The Originals just yet.
