Gwen Stefani: 8 New Songs That Must Be About Blake Shelton

The theme of Gwen Stefani’s new album This Is What The Truth Feels Like is clear as day. The lyrics are primarily about one of two things: her split from her hubby of 13 years, Gavin Rossdale, and her blossoming new relationship with country singer Blake Shelton. Naturally, it’s all in good fun to play the guessing game as to which songs are all about her new beau. When it comes down to it, it’s quite clear, despite Gwen not verifying the meaning of each song’s lyrics.

Entertainment Tonight took on the guessing game while reminding that Stafani has already made it known that “Make Me Like You” is definitely about Shelton.

“We already knew that the song, ‘Make Me Like You,’ was written about Blake, but there is plenty more where that came from. ‘Truth’ is a bold-faced love letter to the country star, while ‘Asking 4 It’ is a sultry take on the uncertainty of a new romance.”

That’s three of eight that are more than likely about the country singer. Which five are the remaining that are directed at Blake? Gwen’s most recent single,”Misery,” sounds as though it has a negative message attached to it and that it would be more likely about her split from Gavin; yet, the lyrics of the ditty say otherwise.

“I’m thinking things I never thought before; Like what your love would taste like; Give me more; Don’t sell this feeling at the grocery story.; Oh ’cause your love, it tastes like; You’re like drugs.”

Other songs that definitely have lyrics that are surely directed at Gwen’s new beau include “Rare,” “You’re My Favorite,” “Where Would I Be?” Truth,” “Asking 4 It,” and “Send Me A Picture.”

Stefani spoke of the album, noting the original experience she had when creating this emotional album, NPR noted.

“This is the first record I’ve ever made in real time…. It starts off angry, sad, mad and quite sarcastic — and then really does take a huge change, to hope. People always want to say, ‘How do you evolve as a musician?’ The biggest evolution is to write. It’s so great to write a record that’s mainly about being happy, and that’s something new for me.”

Gwen also shared how the album came together so seamlessly due to the difficult times she had following her divorce. She brought beauty out of hardship by writing the album.

“I found out my life was going to change forever. Instead of wanting to die, I said to myself, I’m not going to go down. I’m going to turn this into music.”

Stefani made that goal a reality by bringing her fans a fun, yet emotional treat for the senses. As aforementioned, a number of songs on the album are about her ex, Gavin Rossdale, who was reportedly caught in an affair with the couple’s former nanny.

It’s telling that Gwen’s first album was one track written about her crumbled marriage to Rossdale entitled, “Used To Love You.” ET reminds readers of the poignant lyrics to the song.

“You thought there were no boundaries, but you just pushed me too far; I guess nobody taught you, nobody taught you how to love; Suitcase, Band-Aids; Pulling back out the driveway; You go, I’ll stay; You can keep all the memories; I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you, I thought you loved me the most.”

“Red Flag,” “Naughty,” and “Me Without You” are also songs likely about Gwen’s ex and the singer doesn’t hold back, giving Gavin a rather cutting nickname in “Naughty.”

“Shady so long that Mr. Shady is your name.”
