Jessa Duggar Shows Off ‘Terrible’ Cooking Skills While Anna Reveals Seeing Josh Duggar Again Was ‘Painful’ [Video]

The premiere episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On caught up with the Duggar family, including Jessa, who was tasked with hosting the family’s annual fall feast. The series is the first time the Duggar clan has been on TLC in a regular series since 19 Kids & Counting was cancelled last year.

In the episode, new mother Jessa tries to prepare two turkeys for the feast. In the trailers for Jill & Jessa: Counting On, Jessa tells the camera that family is everything, so it makes sense the first episode would tell the story of Duggar preparing a large family meal.

Jessa admits that she’s not the best cook, confessing that “[I’m] probably going to burn the birds or something.” After feeding the turkeys, the rest of the Duggar family will “be like, ‘That was nice.'” Although Jessa was married two years ago, Duggar revealed in the episode that she doesn’t frequently cook. Instead, she and her husband Ben usually “eat eggs, yogurt, snack…”

In fact, according to Duggar, since she has gotten married, she hasn’t really cooked at all, and only “a couple times a month I’ll actually cook a meal,” adding that their eating habits are “kind of terrible.”

Absent from the meal was co-star Jill Dillard, who is currently in Central America doing mission work. Jessa and her sisters admitted that they miss Jill, especially around the holidays. Jana explained that “[w]hen we’re doing cooking things, or shopping or whatever, it’s like ‘Aw, all of us are here except for Jill,'” adding that the Duggar family misses Dillard “even more around the holidays.”

Jessa agreed that the separation is painful, particularly since Spurgeon and Jill’s son, Israel, can’t play together.

“It’s kinda sad knowing that Izzy and Spurgeon won’t get to meet for quite a while,” Jessa confessed.

The sisters send each other “a lot of videos” and are “keeping up with the milestones that way.” In the past, Jessa admitted that she depends on her sister for advice raising Spurgeon, particularly about breastfeeding or when to change diaper sizes.

In the same episode, Jessa Duggar’s sister-in-law, Anna Duggar, opened up about visiting Josh in Illinois, where he fled after admitting to having two accounts on the infidelity site Ashley Madison. Confiding that her “world instantly shattered” after learning Josh “accounts set up on websites that were set up specifically for having an affair and cheating on your spouse,” Anna said that it was best for Josh to go away after his cheating was exposed.

“We felt that something long-term would be helpful and probably the best situation for our family,” Duggar said in the first episode of Jill & Jessa: Counting On.

One person who has lost out since Josh has been away, however, is their baby, Meredith. Confessing that it has “been good for our hearts for this time for each of us to get help separately,” Duggar explained “it’s also been hard. Meredith was a month old when Joshua left — now she’s almost 4 months old.”

Clearly, the cheating scandals have weighed on Anna these past months, as the mother of four admitted that she’s “coming face to face with a lot of painful memories” during her visit to Josh. In fact, the Josh Duggar scandals changed his relationships with everyone in his family, and in an interview, Jessa Duggar revealed that although she has “forgiven” Josh, it wasn’t easy and was definitely a process.

Jessa Duggar’s brother, John-David, in particular admitted that his relationship with Josh has altered. In the three-part series of Jill & Jessa: Counting On, John-David said he used to idolize Josh, but now, he no longer wishes to be like his big brother.

“I still love my brother and still talk to him on a regular basis, but things have definitely changed, some within the relationship,” John-David confessed.
