The Bachelor‘s Lauren Bushnell has endured many uncomfortable moments on her journey to win over Ben Higgins’ heart. One big step in that process was to hopefully also win Ben’s parents’ hearts when she met them in Jamaica. Lauren has since learned that Ben’s mother, Amy Higgins, revealed on camera that she would have chosen JoJo Fletcher for Ben.
In an emotional preview clip, Ben’s mom tearfully shared that she had nothing against Lauren Bushnell, but if she was forced to make the decision that day, she would pick JoJo for her son.
“It has nothing to do with anything personal towards either girl, but if I was to make that decision for Ben today, if it depended on me, I would pick JoJo.”
During The Bachelor finale, JoJo seemed to have the right answers to many of Amy’s concerns. Ben’s mom keyed in on the fact that both Ben and JoJo referred to each other as best friends during separate conversations with her. The fact that Ben told his mom JoJo always put him at ease and made him feel like everything would be okay, sealed the deal.
“Jojo is way more my style. Just because you referred to her as ‘the first person who will reassure me and tell me it’s gonna be OK,’ and that, for me, is really all I needed to hear.”
As Us Weekly reports, Lauren Bushnell shared her feelings about Ben’s mother’s comments, saying, “at first, it’s kind of strange to watch. But then you have to remember that happened long enough ago where now our relationship is in a totally different place.”
Lauren Bushnell, who has been engaged to Ben Higgins for four months now, said she has no doubts at all about her current relationship with the Higgins family. Bushnell has put the past behind her and is focusing on the love and acceptance she feels from Ben’s parents now.
“Ben’s whole family has done nothing but accept me as a daughter now, into their family, and I consider them parents, too. I just kind of realized that, that was in the past, and I’ve felt nothing but love and acceptance since then.”
Ben Higgins clarified his mom’s remarks to Extra, saying The Bachelor journey was a “crazy experience for everyone involved.” Ben explained he was asking his mom’s advice on being in love with both Lauren Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher.
After meeting each woman for only a couple hours, Mrs. Higgins gave the best answer she could at the time. In the end, just having his parents meet Lauren and JoJo was all Ben needed. Now, Higgins is focused on his mom and dad truly getting to know Lauren as part of their family.
“I think this whole thing is a crazy experience for everyone involved. There are time[s] when it spins you in the right place and that’s like with Lauren, but, you know, my mom met both these women for a couple of hours one day and, you know, I was kind of asking for advice and she’s like, ‘I don’t know what to tell you,’ and really that’s the only advice I needed. I just wanted her to meet the women, my dad to meet the women, and get to know Lauren now.”
Of course, this is just one of the things Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell have had to work through since watching their Bachelor moments unfold on television. Lauren credited her fiancé for making the entire difficult situation “so much easier” by being “such a good listener and so supportive.”
Despite the emotional ups and downs, Lauren Bushnell raved, “I am more in love with him today than I was yesterday, and the day he proposed; it keeps getting better and better.”
No wedding date has been set, but Ben Higgins said it will be “soon.” He and Lauren have not ruled out a televised ceremony.
