‘Game Of Thrones’: HBO Releases Jon Snow Death Scene Script

Game of Thrones is no stranger to explosive season finales. However, arguably the most explosive finale of them all came at the end of Season 5 of the hit HBO show last year, with fan favourite character Jon Snow being brutally murdered by The Night’s Watch. Fans of the show are now able to relive the tragic scene as it was written, with HBO releasing a series of script pages from that episode that lay out exactly how the brutal scene was planned to play out.

Obtained by Entertainment Weekly, the script pages are taken directly from the last episode of Game of Thrones Season 5, “Mother’s Mercy.” That very episode is arguably up there, along with “Baelor” and “The Rains of Castamere” as the most iconic episodes from across the show. That’s no surprise considering the episode that also tied up a number of loose ends from series five was written by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. In fact, the pair were awarded an Emmy last year for their work on the Game of Thrones season finale, with many crediting it as one of the biggest and best moments in the recent history of television.

The contents of those aforementioned released Game of Thrones scripts are largely predictable, especially if you’ve seen that explosive finale. However, it’s worth noting the added instructions that Benioff and Weiss provided Kit Harrington with in order to effectively deliver the scene.

We’re not entirely sure why HBO took the decision to release script pages from a pivotal moment in Game of Thrones. However, we’d throw a guess that it could be a bid by the network to grow some excitement around Game of Thrones once again, ahead of the show’s sixth season next month. Since the scene was aired in the season finale last year, there’s been widespread speculation over whether or not Jon Snow is still alive. Fans of the show struggled to come to terms with the death of such a beloved character, with many claiming that there must be some explanation. HBO‘s decision to release this script could point towards the fact that we’re going to get an answer very soon.

If you’re looking to get a better insight into what was going on inside Jon Snow’s head during the dramatic scene, or if you’re more interested in gaining a better understanding of exactly how Kit Harington managed to bring the character to life in his final scene, the scripts are well worth having a read of.

Excitement is currently growing rapidly around the upcoming return of Game of Thrones on April 24. However, HBO are currently struggling to contain spoilers around the series, recently confirming that they won’t be sending out press copies of upcoming episodes, to prevent potential leaks. Game of Thrones is undeniably one of the biggest shows on television and as such, containing leaks is always going to be an incredibly difficult task.

We’d expect to see plenty more script pages and the like come out before the fifth season of Game of Thrones airs next month, in a bid by HBO to grow even more excitement over the series. However, many would argue that HBO don’t have a difficult task on their hands, with many fans struggling to contain their excitement over the upcoming series. The series is set to be more exciting than ever, largely comprised of completely new content that hasn’t yet been covered in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. You’ll be able to watch the new season of Game of Thrones when it airs on HBO on April 24.
