Ben Affleck Opens Up About ‘Challenging’ Year With Jennifer Garner On ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ [Video]

Ben Affleck is opening up about his “challenging” year, including his divorce from Jennifer Garner, during his latest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where Affleck revealed that he and Garner are still “good friends” following their 2015 split.

“I know it’s been kind of a challenging year, obviously,” DeGeneres told Ben on her popular daytime talk show on the episode set to air today, where she admitted to Affleck that she “loves” that he and Garner are both thinking of their children in their impending divorce.

“What I love, and I think what everybody loves, is that you and Jen are putting the kids first,” Ellen told Ben on the show this week, “we see you with the kids all the time and I think that’s the most important thing and the most important message to send to everybody.”

“Absolutely, you know, we’re good friends and we’re doing our best,” Affleck replied to to the talk show host and comedian comedian, adding that his and Jennifer’s “kids are fabulous” and adding that the former couple are “working our best for them and that’s all you can do.”

Affleck appeared to play coy when going into any further details about his and Jennifer’s divorce, though Ben’s first talk show mention of his and Garner’s split comes just days after Ben candidly opened up about how he really felt about Jennifer’s recent tell-all interview with Vanity Fair.

Speaking to the New York Times earlier this week, Affleck admitted that he was “fine” with Jennifer getting candid about their ten-year relationship, and subsequent split, in the interview before admitting that his estranged wife is “allowed to talk about it.”

“She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with,” Ben told the New York Times of Jennifer’s interview, revealing that he thinks Garner opted to reveal all in the magazine “so she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it – I don’t want to do it again.’ ”

“Jen’s great. She’s a great person,” Ben Affleck concluded, “We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”

Ben’s candid claims about the current status of his relationship with Garner comes just weeks after Jennifer got extremely candid about their split in an interview with Vanity Fair.

“He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy,” Garner admitted to the magazine of Ben following their split. “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”

“It was a real marriage. It wasn’t for the cameras,” Jennifer Garner continued of her and decade long Ben’s marriage, “And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work.”

Admitting that her break-up with Affleck “hurts [her] so much,” Garner also confirmed in the Vanity Fair interview that she and Ben are doing all they can to put their three children, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel, first.

“I cannot be driven by the optics of this,” Jennifer said of her split with Ben Affleck at the time, “I cannot let anger or hurt be my engine. I need to move with the big picture always on my mind, and the kids first and foremost.”
