Olivia Munn Rips Out Her Eyelashes Due To Trichotillomania
You probably know Olivia Munn from The Daily Show, Newsroom, or any number of sexy magazine covers, but you probably don’t know that the beautiful 32-year-old actress suffers from an impulse control disorder known as trichotillomania.
The US National Library of Medicine writes:
“Trichotillomania is a type of impulsive control disorder. Its causes are not clearly understood. Trichotillomania (results in) hair loss from repeated urges to pull or twist the hair until it breaks off. Patients are unable to stop this behavior, even as their hair becomes thinner.”
For Munn, the impulsive control disorder takes its toll on her eyelashes. The actress said that she pulls out her eyelashes when she feels nervous.
“I don’t bite my nails, but I rip out my eyelashes… It doesn’t hurt, but it’s really annoying. Every time I run out of the house, I have to stop and pick up a whole set of fake eyelashes.”
Munn believes that many of her anxiety issues stem from a rough family life when she was growing up.
The actress said:
“I had a very abusive stepfather, so there was a lot of bad sh-t in my family… I found a picture of myself the day [my mom remarried]. Everybody else is all dressed up and smiling, and I’m just staring into the camera. It’s like I knew, This is not going to be good. I learned to have a good appearance on the outside, and then deep down inside just live with it…”
Olivia Munn is currently starring in a hit HBO show, The Newsroom, a new movie, The Babymakers, and is considered one of the most beautiful women in the world. But Munn said it wasn’t always easy for her.
“I don’t think anyone would describe me as weak, but I don’t want people to be mean to me. As an Air Force kid, I moved around a lot when I was younger and no one was nice to the new kid. So there is always this feeling that someone will make fun of me… I was disliked because I was the new girl in every school I went to… I know it’s cool [for celebrities] to say, ‘Oh, I don’t care about being popular.’ Well, I cared. I get that it’s important in that moment, if not in the grand scheme of life.”
