WWE News: ‘WWE NXT’ March 16 Spoiler-Free Preview

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe took up last week’s episode of WWE NXT in it’s entirety. The 2-out-of-3 Falls Match to determine the new No. 1 contender for Finn Bálor’s NXT Championship is easily a candidate for NXT Match of the Year. With Sami Zayn now working a program on the main roster and Samoa Joe firmly established as Bálor’s next challenger, the crew that calls Full Sail University home now has the opportunity to build the stories around the NXT Women’s Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championship.

To that end, WWE is advertising American Alpha vs. The Vaudevillains in a NXT Tag Team Championship No. 1 contenders match. Although not confirmed by WWE’s official preview, NXT’s Women’s division will be represented by Emma, Bayley, Asuka, Nia Jax, Eva Marie, and more, according to the match list provided by Wrestling Inc.

All of the matches from this episode of WWE NXT were taped at Full Sail University in Tampa, Florida, on January 27.

  • The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) vs. Angelo Dawkins and Kenneth Crawford — With Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady failing to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship at WWE Roadblock, it looks like they’ll make the transition to the main roster without ever holding the NXT gold. Meanwhile, these two teams struggle to crawl to the top of the NXT tag team division.

  • Emma (w/ Dana Brooke) vs. Deonna Purrazzo — While Purrazzo has a solid reputation around the indies, she still has to prove herself under the WWE umbrella (not unlike fellow NXT-newbies Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano). As Emma continues to rebuild her brand and Dana Brooke waits to get back in the ring, the outcome of this match should have an impact on who ultimately challenges Bayley at NXT TakeOver: Dallas.

  • Tommaso Ciampa vs. Jesse Sorensen — These are the types of guys for which NXT was created. While they have paid (some of) their dues in the indies, their time spent in the NXT program will help them hone their skills as they create a character that clicks with the NXT and WWE Universe.

  • NXT Women’s Champion Bayley and Asuka vs. Eva Marie and Nia Jax — Perhaps even more than Emma vs. Deonna, the outcome of this match-up could have a major impact on the NXT Women’s Championship Match on April 1 in Dallas, Texas.

  • American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) vs. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch): NXT Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contenders Match — Easily the most up-and-coming NXT tag team squaring off against former NXT Tag Team Champions. Should make for a great match-up.

  • Plus, NXT General Manager William Regal makes a big announcement about NXT TakeOver: Dallas
