Free Copy Of ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Included In Purchase Of Xbox One At Best Buy And GameStop

Microsoft is trying to entice gamers into buying its Xbox One by offering a free copy of Grand Theft Auto V with each purchase. Right now, the special is being offered at Best Buy and GameStop.

Apparently, the offer extends to all Xbox One game bundles as shown on the Microsoft Online Store. This means the free copy of Grand Theft Auto V can be a steal depending on the chosen Xbox One bundle. For example, the Xbox One and Kinect bundle includes Dance Central Spotlight, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Zoo Tycoon in its purchase. Along with Grand Theft Auto V, the purchases will have four games already at the basic $400 price tag. That is just one combination given, as Grand Theft Auto V can be included in the following bundles that provide the following games.

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division
  • One full game download of Forza Motorsport 6, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, or Rare Replay
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2
  • Dance Central Spotlight, Kinect Sports Rivals, Zoo Tycoon (Kinect Bundle)
  • Gears of War (Remastered in 1080p)
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rare Replay, Ori and the Blind Forest
  • The LEGO Movie Videogame
  • Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Rockstar Games Hasn’t Given Up On Last-Gen Versions Of “Grand Theft Auto V” Just Yet

Apparently, Best Buy and GameStop are not the only retailers outside of Microsoft’s official stores offering the special. According to GameSpot, Amazon is honoring the deal too. However, they are providing a couple of extras with select Xbox One bundles. First, they are throwing in another bonus game, Forza Horizon 2. Secondly, they will include a Great White Shark Cash Card for buying in-game content in Grand Theft Auto V. The card by itself usually retails for $20 but it is worth $1.25 million in the game.

As for why Microsoft wants to include Grand Theft Auto V, a game that originally released back in September 2013 on the last generation of systems and in November of 2014 for this current generation of systems, it is because it continues to sell well. Last month, it was the third-best selling game. It beat newer titles, especially those given plenty of hype recently, like Street Fighter V and Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright. The only other titles to beat it were Far Cry Primal and Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

In all fairness, Grand Theft Auto V deserves what it is getting because, overall, it is one of the best games to be made on the last generation of consoles, and it ports well to this current generation of consoles, too. The game received critical acclaim from numerous video game outlets praising the multiple lead character formula, heist mission design, and presentation. The only criticism that most critics agree upon is the quality of the stories and characters. This means the plot and its characters are not memorable, something that was heavily praised in the numerous versions of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto IV. Despite the flaw, Grand Theft Auto V has been said to be a “remarkable achievement” and “generation defining.”

The offer to get Grand Theft Auto V free with any Xbox One bundle is only available until March 19. That is just six days away, this coming Saturday to take advantage of this deal.
