Couple with 16 kids found dead

A couple with 16 kids has been found dead in their Florida home in what police believe is a double homicide.

The “couple with 16 kids found dead” was named as Byrd and Melanie Billings by local police. The couple were shot at around 8pm Thursday (July 9) while eight of their 16 kids were at home. 12 of the 16 children are adopted, and the couple were active in helping troubled and disabled children in the community. One of the children heard the shots and phoned a family friend, who then summonsed police to the scene.

Police are looking for three men in a red van who were seen in the area at the time of the shooting. While the motive for the murder isn’t clear yet, police believe the couple may have been targeted in a home invasion due to the rural location and their wealth.
