Another season of American Horror Story is coming, and while the next location remains hidden to audiences, two actresses will be returning to Ryan Murphy’s hit FX show.
According to The Verge, Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will be returning to AHS. Last season Lady Gaga received a Golden Globe award for her portrayal of the bloodthirsty Countess. However, given that each season is entirely different, including the characters which the actors portray, it remains unknown as to who Lady Gaga will be playing. It’s also unknown whether or not she will have a major role in the upcoming season, or just a cameo.
Of course, Lady Gaga’s special invite came way back in October, and while she hesitated for months, all the while fans were left holding their breath, the Grammy winner finally confirmed that she will, in fact, remain part of AHS.
E! News revealed that announcement finally came during an interview with Z100’s Elvis Duran, which Murphy later confirmed on Twitter.
“Lady Gaga is so brilliant in AHS Season 5 that yesterday I officially asked her to join Season 6. Say yes @ladygaga!” Ryan Murphy wrote via Twitter.
While she did announce her return, she was very quick to say that the details of her role can’t be given, nor could she make any promises about the upcoming season.
Last season during a set visit to American Horror Story: Hotel, E! News sat down with the talented singer who gave her personal take on what the show has meant to her.
“I’m happier than I’ve ever been now,” Gaga revealed, “because the people that I work with really, really care that my life is different and really, really work to make sure that I feel as normal as possible—so that I can have a great time and just be a normal girl, and just be a woman for Ryan on film, or you know… [laughs] a hemophiliac.”
Along with Lady Gaga, Angela Basset also confirmed that she to will be retuning for the sixth season. But unlike Lady Gaga, Bassett hinted at the possible role she will be playing.
“I will be back … I think I might be psychic. I think.” Basset announced, according to Movie Pilot. Adding to the statement, Movie News Guide also revealed that filming for AHS would soon be starting, before June of this year.
Despite her saying she might portray a psychic, she also cautioned to fans that since filming hasn’t started, her role could be changed.
In previous seasons, Bassett played Marie Laveau in Coven, Desiree Dupree in Freak Show, and Ramona Royale in Hotel.
An unknown character for Lady Gaga, a possible psychic for Basset, a previous Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, and most recently a Hotel— so where is Season 6 headed?
If you’ve kept your ear to the ground, then you know it’s anybody’s guess. However, despite a lot of secrecy, there has been some hints dropped by crew members of the show.
Bustle reports that among those giving hints are creator Murphy, cinematographer Michael Goi, and FX president John Landgraf.
Landgraf revealed the newest season will be “set in the present [with] echoes of the past… It’s set in two time periods,” while Goi has hinted via Twitter that children will play a major role in the season.
Murphy also previously added that, “The next thing we’re crafting up is very, very different than this. Not smaller. But just not opulent. More rogue and more dark.”
With that said, the leading theories are an Amusement Park, some sort of Academy, Summer Camp, and Roanoke.
For now, all we know for sure is that Lady Gaga and Angela Bassett will turn up in Season 6 of American Horror Story, everything else is yet to be announced.
