WWE News: Austin Aries Reveals Why He Signed With WWE NXT

WWE NXT is continuously the hottest wrestling brand in the business. At one point, it was a mediocre reality show on the USA Network, in which they took wrestlers from Florida Championship Wrestling and put them on television. Aside from the Nexus, nothing good came from FCW. It lasted three seasons and was killed before it did more damage to the WWE brand. But, Triple H had the grande idea to create a new brand from the dead reality show.

FCW died and NXT was reborn. Triple H began the revolution and a tournament was held to name the inaugural NXT champion. Seth Rollins won that tournament, while creating a new star in the process. NXT only enhanced talent and let them think for themselves, while starting a new trend of professional wrestling. It was an independent show with a budget. That only built more hype for the brand and the show became “must-see” very quickly.

Stars like Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Kevin Owens and now Sami Zayn have come from WWE NXT to do great things on the main roster. That trend won’t stop, as there are many talents that will come up in the coming months to have immediate impact on “the show.”

One man, in particular, should do great things in WWE NXT, and hopefully as part of the main roster after that.

Austin Aries, former-TNA Heavyweight champion, recently signed with the WWE and was introduced by William Regal last week on NXT. As many already know, he’s facing Baron Corbin at NXT Takeover Dallas. In preparation for his first match in the company, Austin Aries spoke with WWE.com to reveal why he signed with the WWE.

“I became a free agent in the middle of last year. I was seeing what all my options were and had a lot of different opportunities on the table. But from the moment I became a free agent, the WWE opportunity was the one I wanted,” said Aries. “Obviously, there were strong plays made by some other companies, but in the end, when WWE offered me an opportunity, I could not turn it down.

“Frankly, it’s the only thing I haven’t done in my career. I’ve accomplished every goal I’ve set out to. I’ve traveled the world, I’ve competed in just about every promotion there is. The last mountain to climb was the one that resides in the WWE Universe. I’m excited to get that opportunity. The NXT brand is as hot as any brand in wrestling, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Aries laid it all out there for WWE fans and didn’t hold back. Those are his true sentiments about signing with the company, to make the Greatest Human in the World a star in another company. It was only a matter of time that he came to the WWE, simply due to his innate skill and pro-wrestling acumen. He was TNA’s best wrestler for many years.

Just like TNA, he’ll draw a lot of interest for the company and certainly get people to buy his t-shirts. It’s one of the more-popular shirts on WWE Shop at the moment. When the time comes for Aries to possibly go up to the main roster, will that trend continue? Vince McMahon doesn’t believe NXT stars draw money, which is completely asinine.

The only names necessary to prove that thought wrong are Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Both are the WWE’s top stars and even though Roman Reigns is up there, he isn’t nearly as big than Rollins and Ambrose. Aries will certainly add on to that list of superstars in the WWE. If Vince McMahon eases off with his creative control, he’ll be the main event of PPVs soon enough.
