DiGiorno Pizza Recall: ‘It’s Not Delivery,’ It’s Glass

The DiGiorno pizza recall has hit many sports fanatics by storm. For some DiGiorno fans, it’s going to be “delivery” for a while. The recall issue is glass.

Since the DiGiorno pizza callback began, the brand has been addressing the issue via social media and other outlets. DiGiorno Pizza‘s Twitter page has been bombarded with questions and concerns — all of which are being redirected to the pizza company’s direct message section.

One DiGiorno Pizza enthusiast, from Haledon, New Jersey, assuredly wasn’t pleased with his experience. You can see the tweet below.

As you can see, DiGiorno Pizza’s response team jumped right on it with feedback and options for the concerned pizza customer. Several others had similar. but more detailed, accounts of their experiences. For instance, Chris Oshana expressed “f*** my life” toward DiGiorno’s Twitter page. Since Twitter only allows 140 characters per post, this particular user uploaded a screenshot of a paragraph he typed within his phone’s Memo application.

Apparently, his father had just relayed the message to his mother by phone, just moments after he had swallowed a bite from one of the possible pizzas on DiGiorno’s recall list.

While millions of Americans enjoy the tantalizing flavors of DiGiorno’s pizza, only a fraction of the overall 3 million product recalls belong to DiGiorno. And of that fraction, only select pizzas are on the recall list. Fortunately for the company, there are still many selections available and not riddled with glass particles.

According to a press release from Nestlé USA’s official website, the following DiGiorno products made the list:

  • DiGiorno Thin & Crispy Spinach and Garlic Pizza
  • DiGiorno Rising Crust Spinach and Mushroom Pizza
  • DiGiorno pizzeria Thin Crust Spinach and Mushroom Pizza
  • DiGiorno pizzeria Tuscan-style Chicken Pizza

Other than the aforementioned, the company’s Twitter response team notes that there’s no reported issue with the others.

Also, on top of this limitation, there’s another stipulation. The official Nestlé website notes that only specific production codes for those pizza products are included in the recall. The source notes as follows.

“The voluntary recall is limited to the production codes listed below. To locate the production code, consumers should look on the side panel of the package. No other production codes, sizes or varieties of DiGiorno…products are affected by this recall.”

For the DiGiorno Thin & Crispy Spinach and Garlic Pizza, the production codes are as follows:

  • 5363525921
  • 5363525922
  • 5364525921
  • 6019525921
  • 6019525922.

For the DiGiorno Rising Crust Spinach and Mushroom Pizza, the production codes are as follows:

  • 6004525932
  • 6005525931
  • 6020855932
  • 6021525931

As concerns the DiGiorno pizzeria Thin Crust Spinach and Mushroom Pizza, there’s only one production code — 6009525952. Similarly, for the DiGiorno pizzeria Tuscan-style Chicken Pizza, there are only two production codes: 6017525952 and 6018525951.

The DiGiorno company says that the investigation is ongoing. However, it believes that the source of the glass contamination was due to a spinach ingredient. According to the pizza source, several customers complained that they found small glass pieces in their packages. Yet, no customers have been reported as “injured.”

Although, “out of an abundance of caution,” the DiGiorno Pizza source mentioned that the recall is positioned to minimize such an unwanted incident. In addition, the company notes that the quality and safety of its customers are of top priority.

As a take from its own advertising verbiage, it seems that the DiGiorno Pizza company “made the right call.”

All in all, what are your thoughts about the pizza recall. Feel free to share them in the comments below.
