Burgess Jenkins Reveals He Wasn’t Fired From ‘Y&R,’ Shares Real Reason For Exit

When Burgess Jenkins left his role as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless, fans wanted to know what happened. He didn’t share any details, and all of a sudden, Jason Thompson took over the role and started to play the part. Fans were left wondering what happened to Burgess, and now he is finally revealing the truth. Soap Opera Digest is sharing that Burgess went to his hometown newspaper to reveal what is going on with him.

When Burgess Jenkins left the show, everyone wondered if he was fired. It was kind of odd that the second that Jason Thompson was leaving General Hospital was when Burgess Jenkins left. Now Burgess is sharing the details, and he wasn’t fired at all. He actually left the show due to a personal issue and needing to be home with his wife.

Burgess Jenkins’ wife, Ashlee, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Burgess was traveling back and forth all the time because he lives on the east coast, and they film the show on the west coast. This is hard to do with a family, but especially with a wife who is sick and going through treatments. Burgess explained the details about what had him leave the show.

“Continuing to travel back-and-forth… every week would have made it impossible for me to take care of her. At this point, however, we know that she is going to be OK, just in for a long and grueling battle with chemotherapy and radiation. Which stinks, but it’s a real blessing just knowing when we wake up in the morning that she’s not fighting for her life…. It’s great to see her back to normal.”

Winston-Salem Journal shared the story about Burgess Jenkins a month ago, but with it being a local paper, fans didn’t see it right away. They found out the news about her breast cancer in November. They wanted to find out her prognosis before they shared an announcement with fans. Jenkins shared that he really did enjoy playing the role of Billy Abbott because he “more or less did whatever he wanted to do. That’s always fun to play.” Jenkins did have to pass on a few films too, but he is okay with it. Now that Jenkins is back home he, is working with Actors Group, an acting school he started in Winston-Salem that helps prepare students for film and television work. Jenkins shared the details about it.

“It’s a studio I’ve had going for nine years and something that I love dearly, so it is good to be back in the saddle with my other instructors and students. Frankly, nothing is more thrilling than watching the students grow and succeed and book work.”

Soap Shows did share that Burgess Jenkins has a new film coming out. This film just started shooting on February 23. It is called The Reason, and there are not a lot of details out yet, but he did share a pic of him filming in a cemetery. It is great to see that Burgess has been able to find time to get back to acting, which he loves.
