Selena Gomez Reveals Who She Wants To Play In The ‘Mean Girls’ Musical

Could we see Selena Gomez treading the boards on Broadway as Mean Girls’ queen of mean Regina George?

Selena Gomez recently opened up about the possibility of her hitting the musical stage in a new interview with Capital FM, where Selena revealed that we probably shouldn’t expect her to make the jump from pop star to Broadway star just yet.

Admitting that hitting the stage night after night to sing and act her heart out would be “fun,” Gomez admitted in the new radio interview that the musical world is probably not something she’ll be taking on anytime in the near future.

“Of course, I respect Broadway [but] I never in a million years think that I could it,” Gomez told Capital FM on March 11, although Selena did coyly confess that it may happen a little further down the line in her career.

“Maybe one day,” Selena teased.

Selena Gomez made the surprising Broadway admission when quizzed about the upcoming Mean Girls musical, which Tina Fey recently revealed was currently “in the works” during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

“We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close, pretty close,” Fey recently revealed to host Andy Cohen of the musical, which will be based on the 2004 movie of the same name starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert.

“They’re currently having trouble figuring out where the first act would end, and what would be the big ’11 o’clock number’,” Tina admitted, joking that it “might be the girl fight.”

But while it sounds like the Mean Girls musical is almost ready to hit the stage, it turns out that Selena Gomez may actually be eyeing a role in the big production.

When quizzed on which role she’d like to play if she found herself cast in the upcoming musical during her recent Capital FM radio interview, Gomez confessed that she’d actually “like to be Regina George,” the queen of mean character who ruled North Shore High School in the comedy.

“Oh my gosh, that’s so cool! My childhood is coming to life! I love it!” Selena added of the Mean Girls musical news before revealing that playing the less-than-nice Regina would be a “fun” role for her to take on.

But while we know Selena probably won’t be treading the boards as Regina George in the upcoming Mean Girls musical, we do know that Gomez has had her fair share of experience when it comes to mean girls, and guys, in her life.

Selena spoke out about the intense media scrutiny she deals with on a daily basis in a new interview with E! News, where she got candid about the mean comments she receives on a daily basis.

“I get picked on by grown adults all the time. It’s grown-ups and I don’t get it. It just baffles me,” Selena confessed to the site in 2014.

“I wish I could just sit them down and say, ‘What were you doing at 15? What were you doing at 18? What were you doing at 21?'” Gomez told the site. “Because I can guarantee you it’s not half of what I’ve done.'”

Selena Gomez also candidly revealed in the E! News interview that she does all she can to not let the negative comments get to her.

“Trust me, it’s hard,” Selena said, “I’ve had my moments where I’ve let them get to me but I refuse to let them win.”

But despite the mean girl comments, Selena admitted at the time that she isn’t planning on saying goodbye to social media as a result.

“Maybe when I’m older, but I think right now I want to be that person for those girls and for my fans,” Gomez told E! News, adding, “It’s nice to be able to connect with my fans. I’m a part of it. I’m totally involved.”
