‘Iron Man’ Actor Robert Downey Jr. Calls ‘Captain America: Civil War’ His Little ‘Iron Man 4’

Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. says that the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie will be like his mini Iron Man 4 movie.

Robert Downey Jr. is renowned for playing the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Iron Man and The Avengers movie series, and has to this date appeared in seven installments of the two film series combined. Not surprisingly, the character has been very popular in the Marvel cinematic universe over the last eight years.

The first Iron Man movie was released in 2008, and the second installment Iron Man 2 followed just two years later. The third installment, Iron Man 3, took a little longer, coming out in 2013. It didn’t take long before die-hard Iron Man fans started speculating about when Iron Man 4 was going to be released.

However, there hasn’t been any news about the release of an Iron Man 4 over the last few years until Robert Downey Jr. joked about the release of Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters on May 6.

Robert Downey Jr. told USA Today that he sees the upcoming Captain America: Civil War as his mini Iron Man 4 movie, thereby raising speculation as to whether or not we had seen the end of what appeared to be a very captivating film series, Iron Man.

“In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.”

If we are to see another Iron Man movie, we will definitely have to wait longer than we did for the release of Iron Man 3. However, there are currently no signs that we will actually be seeing another Iron Man movie anytime soon. Up this year in the Marvel cinematic universe after Captain America: Civil War is Doctor Strange.

In 2017, Marvel will release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with Thor: Ragnarok completing the sequence. The schedule also looks tight for the years 2018 and 2019, which means that if we are to see the Iron Man 4 movie in the near future, then it could be in the year 2020.

However, that’s seven years since the release of the third installment. Notwithstanding, there is still no guarantees Iron Man 4 would come in the next 7 years. It could actually take 9-12 years before another Iron Man movie is released. This is despite the fact that lead actor Robert Downey Jr. is already 50-years-old, which means he could be approaching 60 or older when the next Iron Man movie is filmed.

There are those who actually believe that Robert Downey Jr. is already too old play the role of Tony Stark/Iron Man in Iron Man 4, given the stunts that are portrayed by the character in the film series. Their claims could be justifiable considering Robert Downey Jr.’s present age and how old he could be when the next Iron Man movie is made.

However, given Downey’s personification of the Iron Man character and Tony Stark in the film series, it would be unimaginable having the Iron Man 4 movie without him in it. Therefore, the most realistic step would be a reboot of the film with different actors taking over, some would say. This means that Robert Downey Jr. was probably giving a hint to the most likely step in the Iron Man film series when he said Captain America: Civil War is like “my little Iron Man 4.”

Nonetheless, Iron Man fanatics can still relish the opportunity of watching the billionaire philanthropist, Tony Stark/Iron Man, in the upcoming films, Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2. But still, it will be nothing like watching Iron Man 4.
