‘RHOBH’ Kim Richards Discusses Hotel Arrest: ‘I Drank That Night’

Kim Richards “felt horribly guilty” after her public intoxication arrest last April.

Before arriving to the Beverly Hills Hotel, a favorite locale of her late mother, Kim Richards indulged in an alcoholic beverage after 3-and-a-half years of sobriety, and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star did so at the home of her daughter, Brooke Brinson-Weiderhorn.

According to a People Magazine report on March 7, Kim Richards initially relapsed weeks before her arrest with a friend, who she did not name, but on the night she was taken into custody, she appeared to be alone.

“I had a drink at her house. I felt horribly guilty. I thought, ‘I need to go home. I can’t be at my daughter’s house like this. This is terrible,’ ” Kim Richards explained to Andy Cohen during a recent taping of Watch What Happens Live.

Although Kim Richards planned to go home, she ended up at the nearby Beverly Hills Hotel, reportedly to avoid a drunk driving charge. And while she used to frequent the venue quite often, she claimed no one recognized her when she arrived. Then, as she made her way to her favorite booth, Kim Richards claimed she was abruptly stopped by an employee, who threatened to call the police on her if she didn’t leave.

“He said, ‘If you don’t leave, we’re calling the police’, and I really thought he was joking. And he called the police. And one thing led to another,” said Kim Richards.

While Kim Richards’ comments appear to portray her as the victim, reports at the time of her arrest told a very different account. According to TMZ, Kim Richards was asked to leave after becoming drunk and disruptive to her fellow patrons. In fact, in their report, they noted Kim Richards as being “too hammered” and “unruly,” and accused her of entering a bathroom at the Polo Lounge and refusing to come out. After police were called, the report revealed, they had to “drag her out” of the bathroom, and claimed she was “belligerent, slurring her speech and reeked of booze.”

Once Kim Richards was arrested and taken to a nearby jail, she kicked a police officer and was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and public intoxication.

According to a report by Us Weekly, Kim Richards also opened up about what led to her relapse during her interview with Cohen, explaining her sobriety had been placed on the back-burner as she tended to her ailing family members.

“I drank that night, no excuses,” Kim Richards admitted. “I stopped focusing on myself. I stopped taking the time for me and going to meetings because I was taking care of other people and stopped caring for myself.”

In addition to caring for her ex-husband, Monty Brinson, who has since passed away after a long battle with cancer, Kim Richards claimed her son, Chad Davis, was sick, as well.

During the sixth season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Kim Richards was accused of relapsing after exhibiting some very strange behavior during a cast poker night at Eileen Davidson’s home. However, according to her, she simply took one of her ex-husband’s pain pills in an effort to ease her back pain, and didn’t realize the impact it would have on her mental state.

Kim Richards’ one-on-one with Cohen airs on Watch What Happens Live tonight, Tuesday, March 8, at 8:30 p.m. on Bravo.
