Beyoncé And Rihanna Taking Over Spotify, Top Streamed Females

On International Women’s Day, it’s only natural to determine which females are running the show in the entertainment industry. When it comes to world of music and the popularity of song streaming, it’s apparently Rihanna and Beyoncé who rule Spotify and additional streaming avenues.

The Times Live relays the stats determined by the popular streaming service.

“The leading streaming service (Spotify) released a list of the most popular female artists for International Women’s Day and found that Rihanna was the most listened to globally. But Spotify said that Beyonce was the most popular among listeners who identified as female. Beyonce also was number one among Spotify users in the United States.”

As a bit of a base understanding for the popularity of the leading international artist in regards to number of streams, the publication shares that Barbados-born Rihanna’s song “Diamonds” has been streamed 240 million times, while her collaboration with Paul McCartney and Kanye, “FourFiveSeconds,” has been streamed more than 282 million times.

In terms of Beyoncé’s popularity with streaming of her music, her collaboration with hubby, rapper Jay Z, “Drunk in Love” has been listened to over 180 million times via Spotify.

Coming runner up to Rihanna on a global scale is singer Ariana Grande, followed closely by Queen Bey, Ellie Goulding, and rounding out the top 5 is “Roar” singer Katy Perry.

Female hip hop streaming stats are ruled by rapper Nicki Minaj, who fell short of the international top 10 but ranks No. 2 in the United States behind Beyoncé.

Interestingly enough, it is Beyoncé and RiRi who rule Spotify, yet the ladies are actually meant to be promoting the rival streaming service to Spotify, Tidal, which is run by Bey’s hubby.

Not all female artists, who remain extremely successful and popular, allow their music to be streamed by either service. Taylor Swift has not allowed her music to be bought via streaming due to criticism of the compensation. Superstar singer Adele has likewise not made her latest album 25 available to be streamed. Despite not making her ultra-successful album open to streaming, Adele still places No. 8 on the list of popular global artists.

Both Rihanna and Beyoncé are hot topics for their latest endeavors as well. Rihanna is ready to head out on her Anti tour, while Beyoncé’s tickets for her upcoming Formation tour are selling at a rapid pace. Her album has yet to drop, but her followers, mainly the BeyHive, have indicated that her latest effort is soon to be released.

As for RiRi’s Anti tour, news that ex-boyfriend and rapper Drake will accompany the singer on her tour is making the rounds. The 28-year-old star is keen to have the rapper join her after their successful performance of her latest single, “Work,” at the Brit Awards last month. A source shares about the collaboration between the two.

”She is determined to recreate some of the buzz that was around for the BRITs. Rihanna and Drake know that ‘Work’ is one of the highlights of the show and their on-stage chemistry is electric.”

After cancelling her Grammy performance apparently due to not being prepared, the source shares that RiRi wants to make sure everything is perfect and runs smoothly on her upcoming tour. The Mirror shares the following.

“It shows a level of commitment that Rihanna wants to get her set-up straight on the tour opener as RAab can work with her through any problems. She doesn’t want to have to cancel any more dates and she’s well aware of the scrutiny her comeback has faced. She’s working hard in rehearsals to pull off something special and talked about.”
