Chloë Grace Moretz: Kim Kardashian’s Nude Twitter Photo Reply Wasn’t Slut-Shaming

The Kim Kardashian throwback selfie has caused plenty of conversation on Monday, March 7. First nude selfie, with black bars covering the important parts — one that was from one year ago. Kardashian explained that she was blonde and weighed 25 pounds less in the photo, because some folks mistook the photo for a recent photo, and wondered how Kim’s stomach was so flat after the birth of her son, Saint West.

“When you’re like I have nothing to wear LOL.”

Not long after the naked photo of Kim was tweeted did the backlash begin. A chorus of folks who disparaged Kardashian for once again appearing naked in a photo on her Twitter account began singing loudly on social media. Some reminded Kim that she is a mother of two children, and a wife — with certain folks writing that it was inappropriate for Kardashian to appear nude online, claiming that if they were married to Kim, they’d never allow it.

Others chimed in, saying that Kim should be allowed to show off her “rocking body” anytime she desired, and wrote that it was the definition of feminism not to be repressed.

One celebrity who gained plenty of attention for her reaction to Kim’s nude selfie was who wrote that she hoped Kim knew there were much more important goals to teach younger women than just showing off female bodies.

I truly hope you realize how important setting goals are for young women, teaching them we have so much more to offer than just our bodies.

Moretz also retweeted a tweet from Bette Midler, who joked that Kim would have to swallow a camera internally in order to show the public any part of her body that hasn’t yet been seen.

Teen Vogue went on to write that Midler and Moretz taught a lesson about slut shaming because of their responses to Kim’s nude selfie. However, Moretz responded that she wasn’t slut shaming Kim, and wrote on Twitter that slut shaming is a practice that she’d never undertake.

“There’s a huge difference in respecting the platform that you’re given as a celebrity and ‘slut shaming’ something I never have done and would never do.”

Bette got backlash over her tweet about Kim, with some commenting on Twitter and asking Midler why she cared if another woman tweeted a nude selfie. However, others agreed with Bette and wrote that the last thing the world needed was another photo of Kim without clothes. Some folks joked that Kim needed to post nude selfies in order to pay off the debt that Kim and Kanye West have allegedly incurred.

“Wow what a disappointing tweet from you. Why do you care about another woman’s body and what she does with it?”

Exactly! Last thing this world needs is ANOTHER damn Kim Kardashian naked selfie.

In all of the back and forth, one woman wondered aloud why Kardashian couldn’t show off her body and still take care of her family — being a great mom and wife.

“Who said u can’t have goals AND show off ur rockin’ bod…”

As a result of the backlash, search term suggestions like “Bette Midler shut up” appeared on Twitter.

As seen in the above photo, Chloë arrived at the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 22, 2015, wearing a pretty strapless gown that was floor length and contained pockets.
