J.K. Simmons Cast In Justice League Movie — Commissioner Gordon To Contend With Superman?

Some big Justice League movie news just broke as it appears that actor J.K. Simmons has switched sides from a role that deems vigilantism as a menace and now he’s taken on a role that’s known to be supportive of the aforementioned. This will be interesting considering in one of the trailers that the next time the Bat Signal lights up the sky the Batman should not come calling.

“Next time they shine your light in the sky, don’t go to it. The bat is dead. Bury it! Consider this mercy.”

The following Batman v. Superman tease emphasizes the usage of the GCPD’s bat signal.

When Superman says “they”, chances are he’s referring to the GCPD and of course Commissioner Gordon. That being said, will he have anything to say about Superman’s opposition to the caped crusader since he and the GCPD are the ones usually doing the summoning?

Did Superman have a little chat with Commissioner Gordon in regards to this? This does raise a lot of questions.

Simmons, highly known to be the famous editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies, has made a switch in franchises between the two comic book movie big wigs and has taken on a well known role with the Gotham City Police Department as Commissioner Gordon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the Justice League movie, it looks like by his ranking that the DCEU has started him off further into Gordon’s career. This would make sense since Ben Affleck’s Batman is older as well. Also, there had been many incarnations of the character throughout the history of DC Comics and the movies.

There is the current Fox’s Gotham TV show starring Ben McKenzie and then there’s the good old days of vintage Batman TV shows which starred Neil Hamilton. Later the Tim Burton movies where Pat Hingle played Gordon. Then there’s the famous Gary Oldman who has been been through various stages of promotion throughout the Gotham City Police Department.

Imagine J.K. Simmons, if you will, in the Justice League movie. He tends to have a commanding presence with a voice that is quite boisterous and recognizable. Recently we’ve mostly seen him bald, but will he don a wig once again along with facial hair or will they make J.K. up to be in a new look altogether? So far we’ve seen Lex Luthor with hair, but what about Commissioner Gordon?

Simmons is even starring in a Disney movie, Zootopia, as an authoritarian anthropomorphic lion. The role of the lion? Mayor Lionheart. So far we have J.K. as mayor, an editor-in-chief of a major fictitious newspaper, and now an iconic head hancho in the Justice League comic book movie.

The Justice League Part One movie is being screenplayed by Chris Terrio and to be directed by Batman v. Superman’s Zack Snyder. The film will feature the DC Trinity of Superman, played by Henry Cavill, Batman, played by Affleck, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. The latter heroine is said to possibly be the stand-out character in Batman v. Superman. Now J.K. joins the fray.

The DC Comics team-up movie will also star Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Amber Heard as Mera who is Aquaman’s wife in the comics. Others follow in the Justice League movie line-up such as Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

It is interesting this switch between Simmons’ Marvel portrayal on over to that of Commissioner Gordon in the Justice League movie.

Last month, there was a petition going around in regards to bringing him back to Spider-Man, according to Entertainment Tonight, but alas it seems Justice League Part One has taken J.K. under their wing along with Snyder. The comic book movie debuts on Nov. 17, 2017.
