Cristiano Ronaldo Linked To Manchester United Return, Again

Another month, another rumor linking Cristiano Ronaldo back with a transfer to Manchester United. Ever since the Portuguese striker left Old Trafford for Real Madrid back in 2009, there’s been an almost monthly rumor that Ronaldo wants to move back to England.

And the latest speculation that Ronaldo wants to move to Manchester United, once again, has suggested that Real Madrid are happy to let him go so they can revamp their squad as they look to close the expanding gap on Barcelona.

The Sunday Express alleged that 31-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will be allowed to move in the summer so that the club can find a new talisman, while they’ll also be able to free up wages and get a hefty sum of money for the player, too.

As always, the likely candidates for Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature have emerged, and it will be a tussle between Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United to acquire his signature. That’s if this rumor is true, of course.

During his spell at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo honed and perfected his skill as a player. By the end of his years in Manchester, between 2003 and 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo had blossomed into the finest player in world football, as he won three Premier League title, a Champions League, and he was even the winner of the Ballon d’Or too.

However, since arriving at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal-tally has been even more impressive. While wearing the white of Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 252 goals in 228 appearances. In September 2015, Cristiano Ronaldo even scored his 500th senior career goal for both club and country. In fact, over the weekend, Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 7-1.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s alleged return to Manchester United from Real Madrid wasn’t the only rumor regarding the Red Devils to have emerged over the weekend. The Daily Star also alleged that United have their eyes on the German international midfielder Toni Kroos, who also happens to play for Real Madrid. The latest speculation is that Manchester United would be willing to pay around $60 million for the player, who they were previously linked with back in 2014, just before the German moved to the Bernabeu from Bayern Munich.

Manchester United’s pursuit of these players were dealt a blow on Sunday when they lost to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Manchester United need a victory to boost their hopes of finishing in the top 4, which would mean they’d qualify for next season’s Champions League.

However, following victories for Manchester City and Leicester City, as well as Tottenham Hostpur and Arsenal’s draw, Manchester United’s defeat now leaves them three points behind fourth placed Manchester City, having played a game more too.

They were also overtaken in the table by West Ham United, who performed a dramatic comeback to beat 10-man Everton. If Manchester United don’t qualify for the Champions League, then it will become substantially harder for them to attract world-class players to the club.

It will also mean that Louis Van Gaal, the current manager of Manchester United, could find himself out a job too. There have been a myriad of rumors linking Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea in December following a disastrous start to the season, to the manager’s position at Manchester United. It’s also been speculated that Ryan Giggs, Louis Van Gaal’s assistant, could be promoted to replace his current boss.
