Chrissy Teigen & John Legend Throw Fun, Glam, Co-Ed NYC Baby Shower

Chrissy Teigen, a model and television personality who is married to musician John Legend and expecting their first child, celebrated the impending arrival of their daughter with her husband by throwing a fun and glamorous baby shower in New York City on Sunday — and it was so much fun that the guys showed up!

E! Online reports that the gorgeous mom-to-be and her multi-talented husband enjoyed a multi-course luncheon at Material Good, a concept store in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood that just opened last year. Material Good is designed to look like a Manhattan luxury apartment, but co-owner Rob Ronen told the New York Times in September that the space is intended to provide “unforced luxury.”

“I want people to be able to come in, and, you know, enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of champagne, not necessarily just to buy something. Just to hang out.”

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s reputations as celebrities who are glamorous and on-trend but still accessible are reflected in Teigen’s choice of venue for her baby shower. Material Good has many extremely expensive, high-end pieces of jewelry and furniture available for purchase, but the atmosphere in the store is intended to be relaxed and geared toward social gatherings, so those who visit aren’t pressured to buy anything. Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are A-listers by anyone’s standards, but they maintain a friendly accessibility on social media and have been known to treat everyone with respect, so this warm and inviting venue seems like an excellent representation of who they are.

Chrissy Teigen & John Legend wore paper crowns emblazoned with “Baby Mama” and “Baby Daddy,” written in rhinestones. Teigen wore a white maternity dress with an elegant gold trench coat printed with white horses. She finished her baby shower look with strappy nude heels and two French braids pulled back into a single ponytail. Teigen posted several snaps of the event to Instagram, including one with her beloved French bulldog, Pippa. A few happy guests also proved the party a success by delightedly sharing photos on social media as well.

A male guest, Simon Huck (owner of Command PR), shared an Instagram photo of his place setting, which was powder blue.

Chrissy Teigen’s baby shower also featured pink and white cookies in honor of her little girl, shaped like crowns, onesies, strollers, and baby bottles.

According to US Weekly, an outlet that spoke directly to Chrissy Teigen in February, she and John Legend are expecting their baby girl in mid-April.

“We’re pretty mellow with it. I’m pretty anxious normally with most things in life [and work], but with this, we’re very calm and we feel very ready, despite having not really done anything…I think for the most part, we’re very lucky to have my mom and his mom with us during the summer, so we’ll learn as we go, just like with anything else.”

Chrissy Teigen made waves in the media a few times over the past few weeks. On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on March 1, Teigen told host Stephen Colbert that she had secured President Barack Obama’s approval of one of her baby name choices, causing chuckles in the Ed Sullivan Theater when she implied that she and John Legend are on a first-name basis with the president. Teigen said that Legend wasn’t entirely sold on that particular name choice and that he thought it was “too Hollywood,” so she tried to get a boost from President Obama by asking him if he liked the name, and the president said he did like it.

Chrissy Teigen also made headlines recently when she explained that because she and John Legend had suffered with infertility issues, they used In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to conceive their child, and that she chose to use a female embryo for her first pregnancy. Despite how common this is, Teigen dealt with some very negative and judgmental comments on social media about choosing the gender of the child.

John Legend later clarified that no embryos had been destroyed; their doctors simply gave them the choice of which embryos to use first.
