‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Negan Is Coming And Will Be Killing Someone – Does Glenn Rhee Have To Die?

With the finale of The Walking Dead coming up and all the speculation about who is going to die, fans are torn about who they think will meet Negan’s deadly bat named Lucille. Robert Kirkman has already said that Negan will use his barbed wire wrapped bat, but we’re still guessing who will get it and why. Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan have both said that reading the script for the finale was very upsetting, so we know a major character is going to die. This left fans guessing whose death might upset Lincoln and Cohan so much.

There have been a lot of Easter eggs dropped to fans in The Walking Dead on AMC, and some of them specifically involve Glenn Rhee and the way he dies in the comic books. It was at Terminus when Rick and the survivors were lined up over a trough when Glenn is able to escape a grisly death by baseball bat. Then, in another promo for the finale of Season 5, Glenn is pictured holding a bat with the message, “Only 3 days left.” Hollywood Take posted their guesses about what might happen in the Season 6 finale and they also believe that either Glenn or Daryl will be Negan’s target. Those looking for the complete spoilers for season 6, episode 12 titled “Not Tomorrow Yet” can click here.

The Walking Dead has hinted at Glenn’s death multiple times now. It seems that they were testing the fan reaction with the Season 6 midseason finale where Glenn was assumed to be eaten by walkers. Many knew the storyline in the comic books though and never believed that Glenn died in such a horrible way. Not to mention that TWD didn’t post an “In Memorium” for the iconic character, leaving fans hanging for months until the show returned with one of the best mid-season premieres possibly ever.

Right now, Stephen Yeun is appearing at Walker Stalker Dallas and he is by far, the most popular person at the fan festival. Lines to meet Yeun and get his autograph and maybe even take a photo are also long and winding, as fans lineup to meet “Glenn” before what they think might be his final days on the show. As a last minute addition to Walker Stalker Dallas, adding Yeun was a great addition to the festival and certainly affected attendance and interest.

It was in the 100th issue of the TWD comics where Negan kills Glenn in order to send a message to Rick. After Rick and the survivors kill several groups of Negan’s Saviors in the comics, he chases them down on a trip from Alexandria to the Hilltop colony. That is where Negan lines up Rick, Michonne, Glenn and a few other members of his group and then decides which one to kill.

Daryl Dixon isn’t in that lineup because he doesn’t exist in the comics. Many believe Negan will kill Daryl in the lineup instead of Glenn in order to make room for the new story line with Jesus. That idea is even backed up by the fact that Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl on The Walking Dead, has several new projects lined up. One of those projects is a motorcycle reality show on AMC. The working title for the six-episode unscripted series is Ride With Norman Reedus. Does that mean Daryl Dixon is going to stand in for Glenn Rhee when it’s time to meet Lucille?

We really hope not and here is why. Glenn’s death has been hinted at so many times that it’s starting to get old. Glenn was an escape artist and quite skilled when Rick ran across him in the beginning, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be caught. In the comics, Glenn is chosen as one whose death would hurt Rick the most (while keeping in mind that Negan doesn’t kill women or children so Carl gets to live.) It was also a catalyst for Maggie becoming more of a leader within the Alexandria community and with the Hilltop colony too. If Glenn doesn’t die, Maggie will be too busy playing family to take over as the leader in the way she bloomed in the comics because she won’t be reeling from the intense pain of seeing her husband killed. It’s a key turning point in the comic books and we’re betting as the AMC series and the comic book start to align, that more of these huge comic book moments will have to play out on screen in order to tell the story properly.

Glenn’s death really might not be the only one in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead. There have been many hints that Abraham might also be killed off in the next few episodes of TWD. Abraham also dies in nearly the same timeframe as Negan’s arrival and Glenn’s death. It is possible that The Walking Dead could end the season with more than one main character death. While Abraham dying would upset the cast, it wouldn’t be nearly as bad as losing Glenn or Daryl, who have been around for much longer and are much more important to Rick and the survivors.

Who do you think will die at the wrong end of Negan’s bat named Lucille? Will it be Glenn, like the comic books or will someone else take his place when the time comes? Who else will die before Season 6 ends? Tell us what you think is coming up in the next five episodes left in Season 6 of The Walking Dead.
