Mark Strong Reveals More ‘Kingsman 2’ Details, Will Colin Firth Return?

The sequel for Kingsman: The Secret Service was announced as early as a few months after the first movie hit theaters, and some details are finally being shared about the sequel.

Last year, there were talks about which actors would return for the sequel, with rumors saying that the star of the first film, Taron Egerton, will not be coming back for the sequel due to scheduling issues. However, that rumor was put to rest in January this year when Egerton did an interview with Collider.

According to Egerton, he will be starring in the Kingsman sequel, and also dished a few details about the upcoming movie.

“With Kingsman, we’re shooting in the summer at present. There’s a script, it’s brilliant. Obviously there’s only so much I can say but what I can say is that we shot [the first] one all in the U.K., that won’t be the case with the next one. It’s a far more international story, we’re going to some incredible places, and we have a villain to rival Samuel L. Jackson — this new one is so brilliantly written I wish I could play it. It’s amazing.”

Now, more details are revealed by another star of the movie, Mark Strong, who played the role of Merlin. In his January interview, Egerton said that the sequel will be more international, meaning they will be on U.S. soil. In an interview with Cinema Blend, Strong teased some details about Kingsman 2.

“All I know is that I think it’s starting in May. And I think we’re going to be shooting in the States as well as the UK. So I think there’s an American element to the film, but to be honest that’s all I know.”

Merlin, Strong’s character in Kingsman: The Secret Service, is a senior Kingsman who oversaw the training of Eggsy (Egerton). Strong also revealed that his role will be present in the second film.

“Merlin is very present in the second one. I think I get as much to do if not more [than the original]. But I now that they’re still tweaking and working on the script and they’re still getting casting into place. So it’s very exciting and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Speaking of casting, there have been rumors that Julianne Moore is set to play the role of the villain in Kingsman 2. However, there may be a scheduling issue, as the actress is also set to star is two other movies. If the problem in scheduling can be resolved, then Moore may likely be the new villain for Kingsman 2.

Many fans of the first Kingsman movie are also asking whether or not Colin Firth will return for the sequel. Firth’s character, Harry Hart, also known as Galahad, was killed by Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Valentine, in the first movie. But is his death confirmed? According to Egerton’s interview with Cinema Blend in February, Galahad is dead indeed.

“I think he’s pretty dead. Shot in the head. But, I mean, I still have dreams that… I always thought it would be lovely to see Eggsy and Harry reunited. I have this, you know, I have my own fantasies about that.”

However, the actor also said that although he wishes for a reunion with Firth, he has not heard anything to confirm or even suggest that Firth will be coming back for the Kingsman sequel.

On the other hand, director Matthew Vaughn stated in the past that Colin Firth could make a return on the sequel if the first movie became a big hit.

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel, but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back.”

Kingsman: The Secret Service did very well in the box office. The film was shot for $81 million, and garnered $414.4 million in box office sales. So does that mean we will be seeing Galahad in the sequel?

Kingsman 2 is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017.
