Lizzie Borden: Strange Photos Reportedly Taken By Artist At Borden House B&B

The name Lizzie Borden is synonymous with “strange,” and now a Maine artist claims that she took some strange photos during a recent visit to the Borden house. As Epoch Times reports, the strange Lizzie Borden house photos were taken when the photographer, Joanne Parent, reached around the door to the room where Borden reportedly hacked her father and step-mother to death in 1892. Parent was (by her own admission) unwilling to go into the room of the Lizzie Borden house where the notorious crime had taken place.

Before we take a look at the the strange photos, some background on the Lizzie Borden case.

As the story goes, on August 4 1982, Andrew Borden (a successful banker, and father of the infamous Lizzie) and his wife Abby (Lizzie’s stepmother) were found brutally murdered in what is now known as the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River, Massachusetts. They were killed by repeated hacks with a hatchet. According to the police reports of the time, both would have died from the first blow they sustained in the attacks. However, as the Pen Bay Pilot reports, Andrew sustained 11 separate wounds as he slept on the couch, while his wife sustained 19 when she was killed in the upstairs bedroom.

Shockingly, the prime suspect in the gruesome double murder was Andrew Borden’s youngest daughter, Lizzie. Lizzie Borden was tried for the murders, but she was ultimately acquitted in 1893.

Lizzie Borden lived out the remainder of her life in her hometown; she and her sister inherited the majority of their wealthy father’s estate, and were able to purchase another home in town. Despite being acquitted of the crimes of murdering her father and stepmother, Lizzie Borden was something of a social pariah for the remainder of her life, as many people believed her to be guilty. No one else was ever convicted of, or even charged with, the murders.

Back to the present, and the strange photos reportedly recently taken in the Lizzie Borden house. Artist Joanne Parent came to visit the property, which had been purchased by a friend in 2004, just last year. She visited the Lizzie Borden house with her sister, after being invited by the owner to come take a look and stay in one of the rooms. Not, however, the bedroom where Lizzie Borden is widely believed to have murdered her stepmother, the “most requested room” at the B&B.

According to Parent, the Lizzie Borden house is “super creepy,” prompting her to take “tons of photographs.” The visiting artist also reported a “weird vibe” in the home, like “something was just wrong.”

“At about 2 p.m. I was so creeped out to actually go into Abby’s room, so I just reached my arm around the door frame and snapped a bunch of photos.”

Her photos contained an oval-shaped, wooden mirror in the corner of the notorious Borden bedroom. Parent said that roughly a month later, when she was digitally uploading the photos to her laptop, she noticed something strange.

“You can clearly see the outline of something, like the form of a woman wearing a hood. I showed them to my sister and her husband. I was like ‘Oh My God, look at this.'”

The strange photos taken at the Lizzie Borden B&B also revealed another anomaly. A black bar that seemingly appeared in the photos well after they were taken. An interview with Lee-Ann Wilber, one of the owners of the Lizzie Borden house, indicates that the black bar reflected in the mirror is actually a ceiling vent. However, according to Parent, when she posted the photo of the mirror to her social media page the day before the interview, the black bar/vent did not appear in her photos.

Apparently, roughly 24 hours after the photos were originally posted to Joanne Parent’s Facebook page, the black bar simply “appeared” in her laptop’s photo gallery as well as on the previously posted Facebook photo. To rule out a technical glitch, interviewers investigating Parent’s claims showed the photos to the owner of Archangel Computers, who ruled out corrupted photos and who further said that there is “no way” that the black bar image could just “appear” in a photo. Additionally, he went on to say that there are “no linkages to Facebook from an iPhoto account that could change a photo” after it had already been posted.

Adding further depth to the mystery, Joanne Parent asked the roughly 50 people who had seen and commented on the photo in the previous 24 hours if they could see the black bar in the image and whether or not they’d seen in the day before. Many responded that the mysterious black bar had not been in the Lizzie Borden house photo the previous day.

Lee-Ann Wilbur explained that the mirror in the strange photos is extremely old, and has a history of tricking onlookers and cameras alike.

“Depending on how you’re standing, you won’t see any anomalies in the mirror unless you take the picture from an angle. We’ve had plenty of pictures that were taken several years ago that can’t be explained, however, by a gentlemen by the name of Glenn Teza, a psychic and spiritual healing teacher from New Jersey. His photos show a mist figure and were taken with Instant Poloroid film and there is absolutely no way to mess with that film.”

The Teza photos ended up featured on the television series Ghost Adventures in an episode where the hosts and crew investigated the Lizzie Borden house. During that broadcast, the host of the show revealed that Lizzie Borden’s alleged crimes weren’t the first murders that had happened in the house. The wife of Lizzie Borden’s uncle had reportedly drowned two children and committed suicide by slitting her throat prior to the Borden murders.

So, what do you think? Is there something supernatural about the strange photos captured at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast, or is it just some kind illusion created by a trick of the light?
