Sarah Richardson was found dead in her bed in May 2008, as a result of over 40 lacerations and stab wounds to her body. Detectives had been called to the location after a newspaper delivery girl reported finding blood and broken glass at a home on her paper route. The small, peaceful community was rocked to the core when they heard about the Sarah’s murder. It happened at a home on Lyndhurst Drive—a home that had been owned by her parents for more than four decades.

About 40 minutes after her body was discovered, police received another phone call stating that a man in a field had been attacked with a knife. When they arrived, they found 41-year old Edward Richardson with cuts to his neck. Eventually, police decided that the man had tried to commit suicide after he killed his estranged wife. Richardson had stopped a passer-by and asked them to call the police. When they got to the field, he was taken to hospital and later arrested.

“During interviews he told police he knew he had stabbed his wife but couldn’t remember the exact details of the assault. When he learned his wife had died he was upset. Mr Richardson was under an element of stress due to the break up of his marriage. But what he did was a brutal and calculated act.”

As police probed deeper into the troubled couple’s marriage, they found that there were severe problems that had caused tremendous stress on both parties. Friends say Sarah Richardson still loved Edward, but ultimately decided that she wanted no part in the relationship.

With that decision made, she repeatedly ignored Edward’s texts, and later changed her Facebook relationship status to single. Authorities say that Edward Richardson had become so enraged at the thought of permanently losing her that he packed his car with several knives and drove to the woman’s home, where he busted out a window pane and savagely stabbed her to death. The scene was too gruesome—even for seasoned detectives.

Records show that Edward Richardson had threatened to post information about a videotape featuring Sarah Richardson having sex. Sarah, a popular hairdresser, met Edward in 2003. The former couple dated for two years before marrying in 2005. Sarah left behind a small daughter. Since her death, it’s been hard on Sarah’s family, who says that she was a wonderful daughter, according to Daily Mail.

“There simply aren’t the words to describe how Sarah’s death, and the awful way in which she died, has affected us. We miss her so much. Sarah was the loveliest daughter anyone could wish for. She was honest, loyal and sweet, and everyone loved her.”

For his monstrous act, Edward Richardson was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison. To watch the all new KillerPost episode, tune into Oxygen this Saturday, March 5 at 9/8 p.m. central. To discuss the case, use hashtag #KillerPost to sound off on this most gruesome crime.
