‘The Originals’ Actor Nathaniel Buzolic On Bringing Back The Dead

The Originals is finally getting ready to bring Kol Mikaelson back from the dead, and after much fan cajoling, Kol will be returning in his original body. Actor Nathaniel Buzolic is pleased to have received such an outpouring of support in getting him to return to The Originals character, but he also wants fans of Daniel Sharman to know he will be honored for his contribution to the Kol Mikaelson character.

The Originals‘ Nathaniel Buzolic Talks About Coming Back To Kol Mikaelson

Nathaniel says he’s missed playing his Originals‘ character, because it was such a fun role for him. The actor, who has also played on Supernatural and Pretty Little Liars, says that he likes the cheeky, smart-mouthed attitude that Kol brings to the Mikaelson dynamic.

“He’s the naughty, cheeky kid we all want to be, even if we’re not always brave enough to commit to the actions,” says The Originals actor.

Fans shouldn’t expect the same old Kol from seasons past, warns Buzolic. To begin, Kol is indebted to Davina for bringing him back, so, already, his loyalties have shifted. Also affecting Kol and the way he views things is the fact that no one in his family really made him a priority. Even when there had been a chance to bring him back, both Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) opted to abandon him. Davina is the only one to ever have made him the priority, so she’s the one to have earned his loyalty and love.

Speaking of this couple, Buzolic says he had to rely on Ms. Campbell, when references to Sharman’s Kol came up in scenes. He adds that it took them some time to find a chemistry of their own, but, now that they have, he’ll be fine delivering his own version of The Originals character.

Nathaniel Gives An Inside Look At How Kol Will Relate To The Mikaelson Clan

Nathaniel says his character’s return on The Originals is fraught with frustration, where his siblings are concerned. He’s already starting from a position of feeling abandoned by his family, but then those same people expect his help the moment he returns. This is especially true for Klaus, now that the sire bond is broken and he stands alone with a very small handful of allies.

“With my character’s return, he’s immediately put into a situation where he’s like, ‘Oh, here we go again. I’m back fixing Klaus’ problems,'” says The Originals‘ Buzolic.

The only way Mikaelson may get a clean slate with Kol is with Freya (Riley Voelkel), because, while they met briefly in a past episode of The Originals, Kol doesn’t really know her. He says there will be a moment of feeling a connection to her without really knowing why.

Now that the sire bond is broken, it’s expected that enemies, old and new, will be coming after the family. While it’s true that threats usually target Klaus and generally view the other Mikaelsons as collateral damage, this threat will target each of them. Foes from the past will be crawling out of the woodwork to take shots at each of the Mikaelsons, so who would be after Kol’s head?

“I’m sure there are some ex flames who would be upset that he’s back and in love with another girl,” The Originals actor said with a laugh.

Speaking of Klaus, Buzolic revealed that there will soon be a new vampire in town and he’ll only have eyes for Klaus. Going by the name of Cortez (Matt Cedeno), Nathaniel describes him as being very powerful and someone who will really be a big game changer on The Originals.

The next episode of The Originals, “An Old Friend Calls,” airs on Friday, March 4, on the CW.
