Kate Middleton: Duchess’ Hair Stylist Shares Steps To Getting Her Hair, Says Kate Hasn’t Changed In 10 Years

Duchess Kate is certainly a topic of discussion when discussing an icon for must-have hair and fashion. Middleton’s locks are ever flawless as are the stylish ensembles she so perfectly steps out in. It is easy to become envious of Kate from beauty to fashion to royal status, but at least getting that signature blow-out that the Duchess is known for is something that can be achieved in a few quick steps. The bouncy and radiant locks have been given a coined name by the U.K. press, the “Chelsea Blowout,” and is now a go-to order for clients at Ward’s salon in London.

As People shares, Kate’s own personal stylist Richard Ward relays his steps to getting any woman hair like the Duchess.

“Richard Ward reveals exactly how to achieve the famous “Chelsea Blow Dry” that has become the royal’s signature look, with step-by-step instructions in the first installment of our new video series, Make Me Kate.”

As the publication relays, Kate was simply a college student in the early stages of her romance with Prince Williams when she first started seeing Ward for hair styling and tips. Ward, 49, was quick to state that Middleton has not changed one bit since the first day she came into his salon.

“She’s the same person that first came into the salon 10 years ago.”

Ward also shared how incredibly happy he is that his business has grown to the point of being a personal stylist to royalty.

“From the day I started sweeping the floors and shampooing hair, I always wanted to do my own thing. I never had any expectation back in those early days to think what has happened, has happened.”

Ward is the one responsible for the Duchess’ flawless hair for all events, including her fairy-tale wedding back in 2011. It’s clear as to why he’s the man to listen to when it comes to achieving that sought-after look.

The stylist spoke with People about the draw to the style.

“It’s not just about Kate’s hair — it is beautifully finished, frizz-free, shiny hair. It’s a hairstyle that is well finished. This look is all about having the hair in the best condition possible.”

To assist those styling at home, Ward gave simple step-by-step instructions, as USA Today shares. He starts by brushing the hair with an antibacterial and anti-static Tangle Angel brush. Then, the stylist applies a bulking spritz in a little section of the hair to increase its volume, that is important to achieve that lovely bounce that Middleton’s locks always have.

Once partially dry, Ward shares that he uses his Shine Angel Brush (a round brush with bristles) and blows out the hair in sections. Bristles that lie flat are best so that the hair dries evenly and also causes the cuticles to close fully. This helps to prevent any frizz from springing up and gives a silky finish, as evidenced in Kate’s lovely mane.

Once the hair is dry in all sections, Ward pulls up the hair at the roots, adding tension and then applying velcro rollers. The rollers then get removed, starting with the ones that were applied first being very careful not to pull too hard. Softly twist the hair around a finger as each is unraveled to ensure the shape holds

The notable stylist then uses a round brush at the hairline and adds hairspray. The hair then gets dried once more on low-heat to ensure perfection to any hairs around the face.

Finally, Ward runs his fingers through the locks to break up larger sections for a natural, soft, and flowing appeal. The Duchess blowout is as simple as that!
