‘Fuller House’ Renewed For Season 2: Will The Olsen Twins Appear On The Show Now That It’s A Success?

Now that Fuller House has officially been renewed for a second season, does that mean we’re a step closer in seeing the Olsen twins on the show as Michelle Tanner? We wouldn’t hold our breath, but it’s always fun to speculate.

According to E! Online before the hit show debuted on Netflix, producer Jeff Franklin was still hopeful that either one or both Olsen twins would come around to the idea after they initially both turned down the opportunity to return to the series.

“I am still hopeful that Mary-Kate or Ashley or both of them will come back and be a part of it, even if it’s just for an hour. We miss that. Everybody does feel that hole in the family, but it’s like, all family reunions, there’s always somebody that doesn’t show up. But hopefully next time around, we’ll have them back.”

Prior to the show’s Netflix renewal, Fuller House cast mates were hoping ahead of its premiere that Netflix and fans would embrace the nostalgia filled show enough for a second season of the show.

Cast member Andrea Barber said of returning to the show, “We’re all very hopeful and crossing our fingers that we get to do it again. It was so much fun doing the first 13 that I don’t feel finished. I definitely want to do more.”

As for John Stamos, who signed on as producer, in addition to being a part of the guest cast, he said that he’s already coming up with ideas about directions they can go in terms of the development of the characters.

“Next season, if we get one, I want to develop the kids more on the show. Have them carry a little more story, a little more emotional stuff.”

As we revealed, producers approached the twins to play Michelle Tanner, and Mary-Kate Olsen was the only Olsen sister producers were close to getting to reprise the role, but the actress-turned-fashion designer said that timing wasn’t working out. Bob Saget reiterated this, as he sounded somewhat hopeful that maybe timing will work out next time around for Mary-Kate Olsen so that a true reunion can happen on the show.

“Mary-Kate said, ‘It would have to be me [playing Michelle], because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.”

While Stamos originally was miffed about the Olsen twins saying that they weren’t approached at first, their on screen father Bob Saget had no hard feelings, according to E! Online.

“I’m friends with both of them, I love them a lot and they just didn’t really want to act that much, that’s not what they do. It would be fun if the show is a success, comes back and then they could show up. I don’t know. They will do what they want and I love them a lot.”

Getting a Season 2 gives some fans hope that there will be an opportunity for that to happen.

Despite the lack of Michelle Tanner, the Netflix series did include her in a very special way. In the first episode, the cast broke the fourth wall to tell the audience that Michelle was off running her own fashion empire, which is exactly what the twins are doing. In another episode, her famous catchphrase “You got it, dude” is uttered.
