‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Outer Rim DLC Goes To Jabba’s Palace, Shoots First With Greedo

Electronic Arts and DICE began peeling the curtain back on the first paid Star Wars: Battlefront DLC, titled The Outer Rim. The first details for the upcoming expansion pack for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC shooter was shared Wednesday, revealing new Heroes and a new mode on top of new maps.

The Outer Rim DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront is scheduled to be released sometime during March. Neither EA nor DICE has shared a release date yet, but they have confirmed several new details.

As expected, the new maps return players to the planets of Sullust and Tatooine. The former sounds like more of the same from what we’ve seen of Sullust so far while the latter promises exploration of Jabba the Hutt’s palace.

“Blast enemies in the smelting factory or along the industrial pipes and platforms of Sullust or fight through Jabba’s throne room and sail barge garage on Tatooine,” the page for Outer Rim states.

Those with sharp eyes might have also noticed two playable heroes in the Outer Rim DLC tease. Greedo and Nien Nunb were confirmed as new additions with the DLC. Players can now argue over who shot first with Greedo on the Imperial Side, while Nien Nunb will be the Rebel sharpshooter.

These new maps and heroes to play with will also come with a new mode called Extraction. It’s another Battlefront scenario where one side attempts to complete an objective while the other side tries to stop them.

“Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources. Now they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point.”

Meanwhile, a new set of weapons and Star cards will also be added.

“Arm yourself with the new Relby V-10 rifle and DT-12 blaster pistol and collect and equip the Scatter Gun, Dioxis Grenade, and Adrenaline Stim Star Cards.”

The Outer Rim DLC is not the only thing new coming to Star Wars: Battlefront in March. As previously covered, Details for the March free update include a new Endor multiplayer map for Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, plus a new Tatooine Survival map. It’s unknown if free updates will continue past March, but Senior Producer Sigurlina Ingvarsdottir said DICE plans to listen to the community and provide updates throughout the year.

What is known is the following paid DLC schedule for Star Wars: Battlefront.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – We will have more details to share about this exciting new expansion pack in the coming months.

Four expansion packs with 16 new multiplayer maps will equal four maps for each of these DLC releases. The Death Star and Bespin are particularly exciting for the Fighter Squadron game mode, though that never technically happened in Cloud City in the films.
