Christian Bale has been in town visiting victims of the Aurora shooting, meeting up with seven patients who were injured in the tragic incident, which occurred during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises.

The lead star of the last three Batman films came good on his promise to visit Aurora and those who were injured when 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes allegedly burst into the Century Aurora 16 theater early Friday and killed 12 people, injuring 58 others in the process.

Bale spent around 10 minutes with each patient on Tuesday morning, with wife Sibi Blazic by his side. He later stopped to visit the growing pile of floral tributes that were amassing outside the theater where the shooting took place.

Hospital interim president Bill Voloch said Bale spent a total of two and a half hours at the hospital, where he met with five people being treated for their injuries. Two others came from the nearby Swedish Medical Center to meet Bale. Speaking to The Denver Post, Voloch said:

“The patients were really happy to meet Bale. They are obviously big fans of his movies. They wanted to see Batman and were really pleased to see Bale. It was good for the patients. We hope it was therapeutic for them, and all the staff really appreciated him coming.”

Nurse Crystal Flateland also said she felt the love, telling the newspaper:

“I am probably one of the biggest Batman fans ever. It was amazing, actually, to get to meet him. I think it’s really great he came out here. It was touching.”

Flateland was part of a medical team transferred to Medical Center of Aurora, where extra help was required; in the end, she worked for around 40 hours straight.

Carey Rottman of Denver (bottom picture) was one of the patients visited by Bale, and he rapidly tweeted a photo of himself with the movie star.

Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises, confirmed they had no involvement in Bale visiting Aurora. An assistant for WB executive Susan Fleishman stated:

“Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers.”

Kudos to Mr Bale for his rapid response, and for giving some needy people a much-needed lift. Here are some pics of his visit:
