Salma Hayek’s Dog Was Trespassing When He Was Shot And Killed, Police Confirm Shooting Was Justified

Salma Hayek’s dog Mozart was shot and killed last month at her ranch in Yelm, Washington, and now the police have confirmed that the shooting was justified because Mozart was trespassing on the neighbor’s property.

After Salma found her dog dead, the police launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to Mozart’s death. Hayek’s neighbor later confessed to shooting the dog, but said there were extenuating circumstances which lead him to do it.

According to TMZ, Hayek’s neighbor told the police that her dogs regularly wandered onto his property when their caretaker was taking them for walks. On the particular day in question, the neighbor said several of Hayek’s dogs were in his garage, and he used a pellet gun to scare them away as they frequently attacked his own dogs. He added that he never intended on killing any of the animals, and he was just trying to get them off of his property. The Washington police agreed with Hayek’s neighbor, and said the shooting was justified because her dogs were on his property, and the police have since closed the investigation.

Hayek shared the news that her beloved pet had been killed in an Instagram post last week.

“I haven’t posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb,” Hayek captioned a picture of Mozart laying out in the yard.

“He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death. #doglover #animalrights #dog #dogoftheday#rip #delivery #washingtonstateauthorities.”

On Tuesday, March 1, Hayek thanked her fans for the support during this difficult time.

“I am very moved by all your stories you have shared with me in regards of Mozart’s death,” she captioned an Instagram photo of her and her dogs. “I am trying to figure out a way to use technology so we can have a chat and shares my feelings with you.”

According to a previous report by The Inquisitr, Hayek, the 49-year-old actress who is currently starring in the film Drunk Parents, has often expressed her love for her animals, many of which she adopted.

“I have five horses, four alpacas, one cat, eight dogs, one hamster, five parrots, two fish, I’m sure I’m forgetting something!” Hayek told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show in October, 2013. “You know this is like the Oscars you forgetting someone. Oh I forgot! I have bunny rabbits, I have turkeys, 20 chickens, same with the rabbits be careful just buy one.”

Last summer, Hayek revealed on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she has nine dogs living on her ranch, according to E! News.

“I pick up dogs from the street—not even rescue from the shelter—I pick them up from the street,” Hayek revealed at the time.

Earlier this week, Salma Hayek joined the cast of Ryan Reynolds latest film The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Hayek will star in the action-packed movie alongside Daredevil actress Elodie Yung.
