Oscars 2016: Stacey Dash Falls Flat — Chris Rock And Kevin Hart Talk #OscarsSoWhite Buzz [Videos]

The 2016 Oscars brought the kind of buzz expected with host Chris Rock taking the #OscarsSoWhite controversy head on. Stacey Dash made an appearance in one segment of the show, and the Oscars crowd didn’t react at all. Or, more rightly, the Oscars audience reacted with confusion, as if they didn’t understand the controversy that has surrounded Dash as of late.

As seen in the below video, Stacey wished the Oscars crowd a “Happy Black History month,” after Dash resolutely came against setting aside a month to focus on African Americans.

The Stacey joke fell flat with those watching, as reported by E! Dash was introduced by Rock, with Chris calling out the Fox News commentator onto the Oscars stage. Folks didn’t know if Stacey would actually walk out onto the stage, or if a Dash look-a-like would pop onto the stage to make fun of the conservative actress.

Instead, it was actually Dash, dressed to the nines, who appeared on the Oscars stage. First appearing in movies like Moving, with Richard Pryor, and gaining fame with cult favorites like Clueless, Dash generally stars in films that aren’t the kind usually that would bring Stacey to the Oscars stage.

After joking in the opening about unemployed folks who tried to urge Chris to quit his hosting gig, Rock began his joke leading up to Dash’s appearance once again speaking about jobs.

“It’s hard to get a job. But let me tell you some good news. The academy has taken steps to fix this problem. That’s why it’s my honor to introduce the new director of our minority outreach program. Please welcome miss Stacey Dash.”

Stacey then walked out on the stage and spoke of helping out African Americans, without going into further details.

“I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month! Thank you.”

Dash didn’t get many laughs. A view of the Oscars audience showed confused faces or those who just didn’t want to react. Chrissy Teigen made a scrunched-up face that showed the discomfort felt after Dash’s appearance. Being pregnant, Chrissy might have found it difficult to hide her emotions.

Kevin Hart made an emotional speech about the whole Oscars controversy and urged fellow black actors and actresses to keep the faith and keep working hard, despite the melee over the second year in a row whereby no people of color were nominated for the top awards.

Besides Stacey shaking up the Oscars crowd when Dash unexpectedly spoke at the 88th Annual Academy Awards, other jokes fared much better. Rock quipped that Hart would be the host of the Oscars next year, and Kevin returned the favor by complimenting Chris on his hosting job. Twitter is lighting up in reaction to Kevin’s straight-forward and inspiring speech.

Next year they gonna nominate every black person they can find lol.

I couldn’t help notice the dope at the Oscars. Kevin Hart knew what to say with the time he had

Chris took on Jada Pinkett-Smith and her boycott of the Oscars by joking that she wasn’t invited, since Will Smith didn’t receive an Oscar nod for Concussion.

There were lighter moments at the Dolby Theatre on Sunday evening, on February 28. Rock took the Hollywood crowd outside the walls of the theater when Chris played video of an interview segment with the comedian interviewing mainly African Americans at a movie theater. Rock asked some of the members of the community if they had heard of the movies nominated for Best Picture, and some of those being interviewed thought Rock was joking. Most had heard of and had seen Straight Outta Compton.
