Lady Gaga Roots For Leonardo DiCaprio At The Oscars Despite Their Awkward Golden Globes Encounter

Like most other viewers, Lady Gaga is rooting for Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars tonight. The singer revealed that she hopes the actor will finally win his first Academy Award.

Although Lady Gaga and Leonardo DiCaprio had an awkward run-in with each other at the 2016 Golden Globes, the AHS: Hotel star admitted that she’s supporting the actor tonight.

On Sunday afternoon, Gaga tweeted, “Don’t know about u but I’m rooting for LEO! He’s blessed us w/years of his storytelling, he deserves this! #1!!” In her tweet, the entertainer included a close-up of her lips along with a glitzy cocktail ring on her finger.

At the 73rd Golden Globes, DiCaprio was seen pointing and laughing to a friend as Gaga walked by him. Then the 41-year-old actor looked shocked and gave Gaga an instant GIF-worthy side-eye as she walked up the stage to accept her Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for American Horror Story. Later that night, DiCaprio accepted his award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for The Revenant.

He explained that awkward run-in with Lady Gaga when Entertainment Tonight showed him the popular GIF.

“Oh lord – that’s trending, huh? I just didn’t know what was passing me, that’s all!” he said, talking about his shocked face.

At tonight’s Oscars, DiCaprio is nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant, while Gaga is nominated for Best Original Song for “Til It Happens To You,” from the documentary, The Hunting Ground. The reason why it’s such a big deal is because DiCaprio has been nominated four times in the past, and has never won an Oscars award.

Lady Gaga also took to Snapchat to share a make-up free selfie on Sunday prior to her highly anticipated performance at the Oscars. In the photo, the pop star wears a newsboy cap and a distressed gray T-Shirt with a beaded necklace. Gaga wrote, “I prayed this day would come.”

As proof, Gaga took to Instagram to share a Bible verse, writing in the caption, “PSALMS 41: 6-14 THANKSGIVING AFTER SICKNESS.”

Vice President Joe Biden will introduce Gaga before she takes the stage to perform her heart-breaking song at the Oscars. The emotional ballad talks about what a victim of sexual assault goes through. Biden has been a longtime advocate of sexual assault and domestic violence, and The Hunting Ground features the victims of a campus sexual assault.

This cause is extremely important to Gaga, who asked revealed in an interview with Howard Stern that she was raped when she was 19-years-old. She also has been vocal about her support for Kesha in the middle of her lawsuit against producer Dr. Luke, who allegedly emotionally, mentally, and physically assaulted her.

Songwriter Diane Warren spoke to Rolling Stone about her predictions on Gaga’s performance at tonight’s Oscars.

“She’s gonna blow people away at the Oscars. You know what’s really weird? I was nominated a year ago for a song I did for a movie called Beyond the Lights with Rita Ora, and it lost. Gaga and I had already gone in the studio. She’d already made this beautiful, stunning record a few weeks before that. Anyway, so I just lost my seventh Oscar, and she came out and did The Sound of Music, and I tweeted. You can find the tweet, it’s from February 22nd, and I said, ‘Just lost #7. I’ll be back here with lucky #8 with the woman that’s on stage killing it right now.’ Isn’t that crazy?”

The Oscars will air live tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST on ABC. Check out the full list of nominees here. Are you looking forward to Lady Gaga’s performance?
