Salma Hayek’s Dog Fatally Shot: ‘He Didn’t Deserve A Slow And Painful Death’

Salma Hayek is mourning the death of her beloved dog, Mozart, who was fatally shot over a week ago.

On Friday, Hayek took to Instagram to share her grief with her followers, and revealing exactly what happened to her dog of nine years.

“I haven’t posted for a week as I been mourning the death of my dog, Mozart who I personally delivered out of his mother’s womb,” Hayek captioned a picture of Mozart laying out in the yard. “He was found dead in my ranch last Friday with a shot close to his heart. I am hoping that the Washington State authorities do justice to this wonderful dog whom in 9 years never bit or attacked anyone. He loved his territory and never strayed away…he was the most loving and loyal companion. He didn’t deserve a slow and painful death. #doglover #animalrights #dog #dogoftheday#rip #delivery #washingtonstateauthorities.”

Hayek also shared the post in Spanish:

“Hace una semana que no pongo nada ya que he estado de duelo por la muerte de mi perro Mozart. De quién fui la partera, lo encontramos el viernes pasado con un tiro cerca del corazón. Espero que las autoridades del estado de Washington le hagan justicia a este extraordinario perro que durante 9 años nunca mordió o atacó a nadie, adoraba su territorio y nunca se escapó. Era el compañero más leal y no se merecía una muerte lenta y dolorosa. #muerte #perro#justiciaporlosanimales.”

The 49-year-old actress, who is currently starring in the film Drunk Parents, has often expressed her love for her animals, many of which she adopted or rescued.

“I have five horses, four alpacas, one cat, eight dogs, one hamster, five parrots, two fish, I’m sure I’m forgetting something!” Hayek told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show in October, 2013, according to Time. “You know this is like the Oscars you forgetting someone. Oh I forgot! I have bunny rabbits, I have turkeys, 20 chickens, same with the rabbits be careful just buy one.”

Two weeks ago, Salma Hayek even shared a photo of her cuddling with one of the dogs on set of her new movie. She captioned the photo by saying: “love dogs so much that I can’t resist cuddling with them – even when they’ve helped arrest me in the movie we’re shooting! #love #dogs#cuddle #drunkparentsmove #setlife.”

Last summer, Hayek revealed on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she has nine dogs living on her ranch, E! News reports.

“I pick up dogs from the street—not even rescue from the shelter—I pick them up from the street.”

Hayek has long been an advocate for animals, and calls her ranch an “animal sanctuary.” Last year, she was one of many A-list celebrities to voice their outrage after Cecil the lion was murdered.

“I think that we are in trouble when we take suffering and killing as a sport and as a way of entertaining and having a trophy,” Hayek told Entertainment Tonight following Cecil’s death. “The people who need a trophy to tell the world they’re very good killers, there’s something wrong with them. And it’s very disturbing.”

Earlier this week, it was reported that Salma Hayek has joined the cast of Ryan Reynolds action-packed film The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Hayek will star in the film alongside Daredevil actress Elodie Yung.
