Online UFO hunters have recently revisited the case of a curious anomaly, supposedly a levitating sphere, first spotted in a Curiosity rover photo of Martian terrain last year. NASA’s Mars rover captured the alleged levitating sphere on camera as it hovered above rocky Martian surface. The NASA image, according to UFO researchers, shows a shadow beneath the levitating sphere that proves that the object was actually levitating above Martian soil.
The levitating sphere was reportedly captured on camera by Curiosity rover’s Mast camera (Mastcam) near Mount Sharp, on April 10, 2015. The discovery was first reported in the UFO community in July 2015 by online UFO and Mars anomaly hunters Paranormal Crucible.
Renewed interest in the mysterious levitating sphere was sparked by a bizarre conspiracy theory that emerged recently in the UFO community. Some conspiracy theorists came forward with a claim that Curiosity rover discovered an alien probe on Mars and that NASA has secretly recovered a recording of an alien voice from the probe. The recording of an alien voice was subsequently “leaked” to the UFO community by a whistleblower.
UFO blogger Scott Waring rekindled interest in the levitating sphere by identifying it with the alien probe from which NASA recovered the alleged recording of an alien voice.
At the time the levitating sphere was first discovered, Paranormal Crucible suggested it was a robotic probe sent by an alien civilization to explore our solar system.
“A possible extraterrestrial probe has been caught on the red planet by the Mars Curiosity Rover,” Paranormal Crucible reported. “The object has a clear spherical design and also appears to be levitating above the Martian surface.”
“It would also be logical to assume considering our own interest in this mysterious planet that an advanced alien species could also be sending out robotic probes to various planets throughout the universe,” the UFO hunter added.
The discovery caused a buzz of excitement in the UFO community and sparked animated debates in online UFO and Mars anomaly forums. There was broad consensus among UFO researchers that the object was most likely an alien probe, probably an unmanned craft exploring the Red Planet.
But some skeptics raised doubts about the image, saying that the appearance of a levitating sphere was an illusory impression of perspective in a two-dimensional plane. But UFO hunters rejected the suggestion, pointing to what appeared be a faint shadow cast by the object on the ground (see image below).
The presence of an alien probe on Mars demonstrates that NASA was not the first to send a robotic mission to Mars but that spacefaring aliens with more advanced technology beat NASA to Mars, UFO researchers argued.
“The faint shadow raises all doubts that this could be just another anomaly caused by the lens or who knows what else,” a member of the UFO community commented.”The bizarre levitating artifact… can only be an alien probe that has been launched throughout the universe in the hopes of finding another advanced species such as them, a project similar to what we’re doing nowadays except that they have access to better technology.”
Some UFO enthusiasts marveled at the “minimalist design” of the levitating sphere, saying it was evidence of a very sophisticated technological culture.
The Inquisitr reported at the time that some UFOlogists suggested that the levitating sphere could be a self-replicating alien probe. Pointing out that it would have been impossible to detect it in the Martian environment if it had not been caught levitating, UFOlogists suggested that it looks like a Martian rock because it self-replicates using material occurring naturally in its environment as raw material.
The notion that a spacecraft that uses naturally occurring material to replicate itself could remain undetected in its environment is consistent with the UFOlogical concept of “cloaking.”
A “cloaked” UFO, in the context of the idea of a self-replicating or self-propagating probe, is one that camouflages or conceals its presence as an artificial structure because it is composed of non-synthetic or naturally occurring material.
The theorists argued that technologically advanced aliens that want to explore their stellar neighborhood would need not only robotic probes that are capable of exploiting the so-called gravitational slingshot maneuver to catapult around stars and thus speed up during interstellar voyage, but also need self-replicating probes capable of self-propagation like biological systems.
The theorists speculated that our solar system could be populated by millions of self-replicating probes that we are unable to detect at the present level of our technological development because they were designed to escape detection by blending with their natural environment.
UFO Sightings Daily’s Scott Waring supported the argument, noting that the technology behind the levitating sphere appeared to be very advanced.
“This is ancient technology, and it’s still floating above the surface today. No one knows how old it is, but we do know that it came from a very technologically advanced species,” he wrote. “You can tell it is hovering, because the lit top is more in focus than the things in the background.”
