Maksim Chmerkovskiy Talks ‘Fuller House’ Role, Says He Wants To Be An Actor

Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be done with Dancing With the Stars, but the former mirrorball champion definitely isn’t done popping up on the small screen. In an interview with Hollywood Life, the Ukrainian pro dancer revealed that he had an incredible experience making a cameo on Fuller House with his brother Val. And Maksim and his bro didn’t just show off their dance moves on the highly anticipated Full House revival. The brothers Chmerkovskiy showed off their acting skills for their cameo on the new Netflix series, in a storyline that has them cozying up to the Tanner sisters at a club.

Maksim told Hollywood Life that he has a newfound love for acting after teaming up with former DWTS contestant Candace Cameron Bure for the Full House spinoff. And as a bonus, he had the opportunity to work with his brother, which he considers to be a blessing.

“For one of the first experiences in acting, this was incredible. It was a blessing. To work with Val, you know, we both knew we had an amazing bender, but I didn’t know it was going to be that easy and that awesome, and that fun.”

Maksim, who dances with Bure’s character, D.J. Tanner Fuller, at a club in the third episode of Fuller House, said the show’s producers gave him and Val a perfect score for their performance. The pro dancer said he and his brother “were really praised by the producers so much, and it made us feel great.” Chmerkovskiy also made sure to point out that being an actor is nothing like dancing, and that it is definitely a new skill for both him and his brother to work on.

“We’re very cerebral people when it comes to learning new skills and for us this was a different skill. It’s speaking, it’s delivering lines, its feeling, it’s living, it’s not like dance.”

Maksim also revealed that said he and his brother had the opportunity to adlib during theory appearance. While they were at first handed a script, producers later just let the cameras roll and let them have at it.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy has been taking acting lessons for while now, and he says his ultimate goal is to be a working actor. He also promises fans that when the time is right they will see him back in front of the camera.

“I want to be an actor. It’s one of the things that I’m interested in doing, and I was taking a lot of lessons in the last year and a half, so there will be a time when I’m ready and you’ll see me on the screen. I really, really want to do it and not just as a shallow character. It’s a really great skill and it gives you something in return. The feeling that you get from doing something that’s dramatic and real, and you live it out – you walk away and you’re like, ‘Wow.'”

Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Fuller House role isn’t actually his first acting gig. The pro dancer previously landed a guest role as Anton Ivanov on General Hospital. According to Us Weekly, while Val played a reality TV contestant on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang! last year, the Fuller House role was his first big acting job. Fuller House is currently streaming on Netflix, so be sure to check the Chmerkovskiy brothers on the new series.
