‘Bones’ Final Season Details Revealed — Will It Get A Conclusion?

Last month, the Inquisitr reported that the popular crime show Bones might not be picked up for a final season, meaning the series would be cancelled without an official conclusion. But Bones fans can rest easy, as stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz have revealed this week that the show will get the finale that it deserves.

According to Deadline, despite initial doubts of a Bones season 12, Fox has decided to renew the mystery series for one final set of 12 episodes. David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel have both signed on one last time for a farewell season. Showrunners Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson manned the helm of season 11 and will be returning for Bones season 12.

A final season was up in the air for quite some time because the contracts of David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel expired after 11 seasons. But when the production studio contacted the actors with an offer for a final Bones season, both Boreanaz and Deschanel were reportedly thrilled with the idea. It did take another few weeks for 20th Century Fox to iron out the details of the return contract, which is why Bones fans had to wait so long in limbo to find out if the show would receive any story resolution.

Bones has been on hiatus for quite some time, but is slated to return for its much-awaited penultimate season on April 14 in its usual Thursday 8 p.m. time slot.

The final 12 episodes will bring the total of Bones episodes to 246, making it one of Fox’s longest running shows. However, hardcore fans may notice that 12 episodes is almost half as long as most Bones seasons, which usually break 20 episodes. Zap It describes this as a decision to renew a “short wrap up season” for the Bones series, to tie off loose ends, and ensure that the fans are rewarded for their dedication to the beloved crime-fighting couple, Booth and Bones.

The showrunners for Bones claim that season 12 will allow them to, “give the show, characters and fans the end they so richly deserve. Also knowing there is a Season 12, we can now write the most rewarding Season 11 finale possible – one we hope will leave our fans excited for what’s to come in this final season of Bones.

While a few fans may be disappointed with the short length of Bones season 12, David Boreanaz made sure to thank the viewers who stuck with the show through thick and thin.

“This is for the fans! Thank you to everyone at Fox and of course Dana and Gary – for all your support. Thank you to Hart, Stephen, Ian, Michael and Jonathan. Also to the crew and cast for their countless support along the way! And I couldn’t have done it without you, Emily!”

Emily Deschanel expressed a similar sentiment, also grateful that the viewership for Bones has remained so loyal for so long.

“I am thrilled the show will have the ending it deserves for all of our amazing, loyal fans!”

Bones creator Hart Hanson admits that it hasn’t always been easy to keep the show on the air in such a difficult time. The television industry is rapidly changing and struggling to compete with streaming platforms like Netflix. But Hanson attributes Bones‘ success to the quality of the show itself.

“In times like these, marked by instability and doubt, it’s comforting to know the world can count on at least one dependable beacon of stability,” Hanson said. “Apparently, that beacon is Bones. It just shows what you can do with an amalgam of genius cast, amazing crew, cunning writers, stalwart studio, sweat, a tough economy, a mercurial network, determination, luck, magic, miracles, and the most loyal audience in the world.”

Are you excited to hear that Bones will receive a wrap up season? Will you be tuning in for Bones season 11 or 12? How do you think the stories of Booth and Bones will end?
