Finn Jones As Iron Fist? The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Supposedly Joining Netflix For The Marvel Comics Character [Rumor]

Finn Jones has been cast as Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the new Netflix series, according to Entertainment Weekly. Marvel/Netflix announced that the Marvel Comics character would be getting his own show, and while there has been no official statement released, EW reports that the Game of Thrones actor has been cast in the role. So for now, this pretty much just qualifies as a rumor until Marvel and Netflix officially confirm it themselves.

Finn Jones may be recognizable to most as Ser Loras Tyrell, the Knight of Flowers, on HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones. This bit of casting has finally brought together the four superheroes Marvel and Netflix were planning on introducing in a miniseries together, called The Defenders. Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and now Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. Once Luke Cage and Iron Fist get to debut their solo shows, all four heroes will join together. Daredevil Season 2 will air on March 18, with Luke Cage premiering later this year.

Finn Jones trained at the Arts Educational Schools on a three-year acting course and has had an acting career that consists mostly of television work, including Doctors, The Sarah Jane Adventures, The Bill, Hollyoaks, and Game of Thrones.

Is it at all possible that Iron Fist will debut towards the end of the year, assuming they begin production immediately? Probably not, since Marvel/Netflix has stated that at the most they will give two characters a season each year on the streaming platform. But could they decide to extend that quota?

“It’s certainly possible,” Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos said at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, “but these Marvel series are produced on a scale of a major film. So there are long production times and long post times. And in some cases we have character crossovers, which makes it a little difficult to manage production. It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two a year.”

But maybe we’ll see Finn Jones as Iron Fist somewhere in the first season of Luke Cage, provided he has indeed been cast in the role.

During an interview, Mike Colter stated that the role of Iron Fist had already been cast earlier this year. Colter was, and still is, filming the series, and it’s possible that Danny Rand will make a quick appearance on Luke Cage. Iron Fist and Luke Cage were friends in the comics and worked together, starring in their own series dubbed Power Man & Iron Fist. It would surely be a great nod to hardcore comic book fans to see Danny and Luke interact with one another before we get to see Iron Fist in his own show.

The Hashtag Show also seems to believe that Finn Jones has been cast in the role as Iron Fist, although they are clear in labeling it as a rumor for now. They also confirm that Jones’ Twitter activity died down when Colter mentioned the role of Iron Fist was already cast. However, it could just be a coincidence.

“The actor has been cast, but he’s in a basement somewhere,” Mike Colter told Collider. “When the time is right, they’ll let him up and tell him where he is. I am excited. I’ll get a nice little break, after doing Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Whether I’m in his show, I don’t know, but there’s The Defenders.”

The synopsis for Marvel’s Iron Fist is as follows, possibly with Finn Jones as the title character.

“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
